I am very pregnant, due October 19th. I also have been applying at other firms because I am desperate to relocate and get out of my practice area. I never get bites, so my motto has just been, well, might as well apply, regardless of pregnancy. But I just got an interview invite to one of my top pick firms! Any advice on how to handle it? It will be a zoom interview, so I can hide the pregnancy, but I'm not even sure if that's the best route. Help me figure out my life, please! 😁

Pretty bummed. A recruiter reached out to me at a firm I really want to work for. We chatted live on Zoom and emailed back and forth. She asked when I could do a first round interview. I responded with dates/times. Now she hasn’t gotten back to me in two weeks. Followed up and nothing. Did I get ghosted or are recruiters really THAT busy right now?

How do I find a mentor when all my social interaction is over Zoom?

How do you make time for interviews? Companies ask me for availability to talk within a week, but I’m on zoom from 8a to 6p every day and can only hide behind so many “doctors appointments”…

Selected by TCS.

They shared offer letter, I was already holding 4 offers.

1 Day before joining, I rejected TCS's offer even without asking HR if they can match.

While rejecting offer, they asked for a reason.

Reason I gave - I am now prepared.

Company only has 3 sick days and pto accrual so when I’m feeling like crap, I pretty much have to work regardless of if it’s the most unproductive day ever or not. I try to save the sick days basically for true emergencies. Tips on how to deal / stay sane? How do you either push through working while sick and not get depressed about it, or basically slack off all day and not feel guilty?

Question for 🐠 who have worked for multiple startups. My husband and I both moved to startups in our respective industries. My company is very employee focused. My husband is just burning into his role (sub 1 month) and has noticed a lot of people in his team are let go. Enough that it caused concern immediately. Today, someone at analyst level posted an update in slack. The CEO replied and insult this person, blamed the person for the companies retention issues, and then fired them.

Would you hold a zoom issue against an applicant during an interview? I had a recruiter fail to send me a password for a meeting so we started 15 minutes late and I’m wondering how that looks internally. My gut says it doesn’t matter but I’ve never worked at a major firm.

How to deal with another team member who is phoning it in? I’ve worked with this person before and they’ve done a good job in the past but they’ve been contributing almost nothing to my current engagement and I’m having to pick up a lot of their slack

Fishes at MBB or even Big 4 consulting. How is the return-to-work / hybrid model being worked out at your firm? I stared not too long ago and I’m not huge fan of the virtual environment. I’ve found it to be longer hours, unproductive and needless zoom calls. Before the WFH forever zealots jump on me, but m not advocating to return back the office 100%. I’m just genuinely curious if this will continue to be the norm. Because if it is, it’s not for me.

How long is enough to wait for an interviewer to jump on zoom before calling it quits? It’s currently 8 minutes over the scheduled start time. What should I say in the follow up email?

Anyone using speakerphone (speaker with microphone) for zoom/teams meetings?
The idea is to replace the earphone/headphone for the daily calls. Any suggestions?

Does it matter what headphones you use on a zoom interview in terms of looks for prestigious companies MBB, Big 4 and others? I’ve been told that that my Sony noise cancelling headphones don’t look good and I should invest in AirPods.

I started my career in consulting and made my way to Slack as a senior IC 3 years ago. I’ve been building out a team, been promoted a few times and enjoying life here (great pay/benes/culture) but with the acquisition have been offered a few jobs from global consulting firms to own and build out Slack practices. I’m struggling with the decision - current equity handcuffs versus long term salary upside, coupled with work life balance concerns. WWFBD?

My manager on the client side is requesting my teammate and I to travel onsite to facilitate meetings, but we’re pushing back hard since this would be our 4th trip within the past 5 weeks. Stated that we can accomplish what we’re doing through a Zoom meeting, but manager isn’t budging much since “it’s part of the SOW.” Honestly drained from the traveling. Any advice? Time to dip?

My boss loves to have every warm body possible in pitch meetings, even people who aren’t working on it. He will slack you out of the blue and expect you to drop everything to just sit there and make the team look “impressive.”

Why are people like this? Don’t clients see right through it? Is it actually impressive to have 10+ people in the room if only half of them participate? 😑 it’s such a waste of everyone’s time.

MBB fish, might be a dumb question but did any of you take your final round zoom from a hotel room ? Moving around a bit so this might be the case for me , but feel like so much could go wrong (wifi, not having a comfortable set up, etc ) TIA! Hope y’all are enjoying the weekend :)

New favorite phenomenon: hearing the slack notifications on unmuted teammates’ lines after someone says something absolutely batshit on a call.

New to campus recruiting.. if the recruiter doesn’t have appointments posted for “office hours” yet and applications are due soon, what do you all do to make yourself known to that particular recruiter? Would you ask to schedule an introductory zoom call?

Consultants with a full sleeve (mine doesn’t show with button down on), I’m curious what you think about short sleeves at work happy hours/volunteering? Obviously I avoid it showing in the office, airport, client, zoom.

There’s a person on my team who is constantly calling out sick and the rest of the team has to pick up his slack. However, he has a public FB page where you can clearly see him tagged in pictures where he’s partying. I’m sick of these people always flying under the radar.
