How would you answer a “Why X law firm over other magic circle law firms?” question in an interview?
Hoping to get my PHR in the next year or so. Outside of employer reimbursement, are there other opportunities for this to get funded? I know SHRM Foundation offers scholarships for the CP, but I am looking for PHR specific help. Thank you! :)
I am a first year associate in Biglaw. I have been put on an improvement plan to increase my billable hours. My supervisors have commented that have not been getting work because I need to improve my efficiency. I am willing to do what it takes to improve but wonder how to improve my hours when no one seems willing to give me a second chance.
Anyone else’s billables pathetic this month despite the fact that we’re in our 5th week of January? 🤣
I graduated from law school in 2007, went to big law and was laid off in 2009 due to the Great Recession. I went back to school and got my LLM in tax, after a stint at big 4, I got back into big law but was asked to start over as a first year. Years later, close to partnership and being mentored in that direction, I lost my job due to something completely out of my control that I can’t get into. I always wanted to make partner, but I’m struggling at my new firm with not enough work (p. 1)
You’re constantly showing up for everyone else, but who’s showing up for you? I started an initiative to coach HR/people leaders because I know what it’s like to be doing all the things for everyone else with little support or focus on your own well-being, growth and development. It’s a lonely game! I’d be delighted to create the space to make you a priority. Would love to offer a free session, or simply connect: https://www.chrisrollins.me/peopleleaders.
Any foreign attorneys feeling lost while working towards their master’s of law in US and working towards getting bar admission? Being an Indian-trained attorney, I still await to sit for bar (this year delay pandemic) but always curious about how things turn out for other foreign attorneys here on F1 visa.
Anyone here work at PwC in North America? Curious about the work culture and if there's anything to watch out for
I need to spend a good 3-4 hours doing some organizational shit today. I have a bunch of new cases and cases with new deadlines, and it’s going to take a bit to figure out how I’m going to manage everything. It’ll make my life easier and less scrambled in the long run... but there’s so much billable work I should be doing. How do you convince yourself to do all the nonbillable stuff that’s necessary for case management when you’re already pressed for time?
First time founder - would you recommend square, stripe or something else for purchases between $150-$10k or what alternatively?
I’m looking for a screening tool that will assess a candidate’s proficiency with MS-Teams. Would anyone know if there is such a thing that exists?
Any intel on culture/reputation of Schneider Wallace Cottrell Konecky LLP, particularly in California?
Job hunting: For writing samples, would employers prefer a redacted due diligence memo (PowerPoint format) or a redacted memorandum?
I’m planning to buy the study materials for the SHRM-CP certificate through Amazon. What are the best ones to obtain?
Do any AmLaw 200 firms offer fee splitting for associates? As a senior associate, I originate more than my salary and I know that many others with the same title in my firm originate little/nothing. Yet we are all paid about the same base and our bonuses are underwhelming. Sounds like a rant but am just curious.
Question- if someone sues you on state law claims. You want to then claim violation of a federal law in a counter claim can you remove to federal court without diversity of citizenship
I like the people I work with but hate my practice area. How do I walk away without burning bridges 😞
Can we stop attaching unpublished cases yet?
Anyone here interview at Microsoft or currently work there? Going to be at their final day next week would appreciate any pointers. Thanks!
Anyone have United Global Services?
Is it true that PwC did crazy raises/ bonuses? I heard 30% ! Either raise or bonus, not sure which one.
How do I reach more BIPOC designers? Let me start off by saying I identify as Latinx and I am not trying to tokenize anyone or to discriminate against white candidates. I’m looking to add to our design team and I’ve been really trying to add diversity to our company. Anytime we put out the word we’re looking for more senior design roles the majority of candidates are white males. I don’t want to shut talent out, I just want to make sure our opportunities are seen.
Besides change management, what human capital work is done on a typical M&A project? What do the deliverables look like? Does that work differ on M&A execution vs M&A strategy projects?
Started my career in PA. Went to the industry last year. My whole team got laid off due to the current recession. Are big 4 still hiring? My background is in technical accounting and I have worked almost four years now. 🙏🙏
Have a case interview with BCG coming up and I’m struggling with setting up the equation during the quant portion of cases. I do fine once I have the equation right. Anyone have any good sites to practice setting up math equations based on business prompts?
Posted this in firm bowl, but belongs here as well. The big 4 shouldn’t open their physical firm offices. Case positivity in the Midwest is climbing exponentially, nearly 1000 Americans are dying per day, we are entering the “darkest 6-12 weeks of the pandemic”, traveling to see family for the holidays in-state is being advised against. Tell me again how and why we should even remotely consider going to client sites or into offices without proper enforced social distancing when we can WFH. Why?!
Hello! I’m currently working in a start up as a Director of my department. I do a ton of HR/people management because there’s no one else to do it and I honestly love it more than my “real job” — I really want to pivot toward that field and away from any client facing role. Since I only have around 3 unofficial years of experience, do I NEED to take a massive title and pay cut to do this? Most HR/people Ops job Director listings are asking for 8-10 years at Fortune 500s 🥴
Hey ppl, new community mgr here. We’re starting out on Slack workspace for all of our clients, hope to expand to a community platform next year. The main focuses are on client retention and account expansion. Anyone have tips on the type of posts/content that drive discussion?
Analyst here just finished my first project, how do I receive documented feedback? My priorities on performance achievement? Manager hasn't said anything
Do you think Trump is to blame for coronavirus spread in the USA? Why or why not? (no unsubstantiated claims, please).
Should I leave my agency, where I have good work life balance but shit pay, for blackstone, which will ruin my work life balance but pays double my current salary?
I live far from office (1h+). I’ve been asked to visit a client who is even farther (2h+ drive) but company policy states they will only reimburse in excess of daily commute. What are my options?
Is 82.5K a good salary for new grad in nyc in industry? With everyone in strategy consulting and ib I feel like I am “behind”.
Honest question for my desi 🐠. How many of you have a really good relationship with your MIL (specifically the women with their MIL). I am wondering if my wife and mother have a problem that is common to many or are they a minority.
Are there any CA family law firms looking to contract out work (legal research, drafting briefs, disclosures, forms, discovery, etc.)? I have over 6 years of experience and am well-versed in family code and case law. (My attorney is on family leave so we don't have the workload I'm used to right now, and my husband might be switching jobs with a pay cut, so it wouldn't hurt to earn some extra money.)
Got promoted effective 7/1 but am leaving the firm with a start date of 7/7. When should I put in my two weeks? Would like vacation balance paid out at higher salary.
Thoughts on investing into rental properties vs putting money into market? Had 2 HUD rented properties and currently selling them and unsure whether to invest in purchasing another one or just use that money to buy stocks. I’m worried that low income renters will struggle with paying rent due to losing jobs because of COVID. Thoughts?
