At 23, do whatever. Find something you’re super into.
Thanks for the input I appreciate it
Yes you can have both. Have you thought about doing public sector consulting?
Not sure who you heard that from but I have found GPS to be great. Public sector impact and interesting projects, while retaining private sector pay, career progression, and firm admin/support. Originally planned to do consulting for just a couple years but have been here for 5. EH here too, and have seen a variety of industries.

Thinking?
You’ll be 45 before your application is processed, interviews finished, polygraph completed, background check conducted, etc.
Also, I hope you enjoy paperwork. Lots and lots and lots of paperwork.
I’m perfectly aware of what it’ll be like. It’s not going to be like the spy movies. I’m applying for analyst desk jobs. I just believe in the mission of the IC and serving the nation. If that means I’m still doing paperwork and slide decks and doing reports then whatever. It’s still what I believe to be for a noble cause where I’d get fulfillment out of my life.
But yeah you’re right I am confused. I’m a young lost boy tbh

Beware of gov bureaucracy. Develop skills and get Certs paid for by your company that are applicable to the career path you are looking at.
I’ve been doing that but it’s not fulfilling. I can’t do this job anymore. It’s driven me into depression and medication because of how unfulfilling it is

I worked for Deloitte GPS the first few years of my career and it scratched that itch for me (sometimes).

Please do!

A lot of the time the younger people don't get to do anything cool
There’s no one to talk to haha. It’s not like I can just connect with a dude from the CIA on LinkedIn. They’re not anywhere to be found. So I’m not sure how I’d even talk to anyone about it
trust me you do not want to work directly for the govt
If your ultimate goal is to run for office (kudos to you) I’d focus more of my time making sure I never do something I wouldn’t want the entire world to be aware of lol
I was in the military to serve a higher purpose but the job I did didn’t seem like it was very well attached to my perception of what my impact would be. Maybe I’m a little salty. I would just suggest really researching the role you are interested in to understand it’s impact. At the end of the day it’s another job and comes with typically all of the same boring, exciting and challenging aspects you run into in industry. You won’t always agree or feel comfortable with the decisions that drive your work in industry or government. To me, having a job that aligns with most of your needs/desires for impact and growth is more important because the challenges are bound to arise in some form.
That’s exactly what I’m looking for. Making an impact and growing personally and professionally. And I feel like I can do that in the IC. I’m just not sure 1. I’d even get in and 2. It’ll be worth it
