Your base alone should be 125 minimum with commission on top at this point. 1/3 on all attorney fees from cases you’ve generated and at least 5% on all cases your handling on your own on top. Gotta get out asap.
Starting salary was $55k and now I’m at $75k almost 5 years later. I do get a yearly bonus, yearly profit sharing bonus, and a cut of the fees for any case that I refer to the firm.
WHAT?!?!?! That is all your are making. No absolutely not. You are way way underpaid. I don't know that I would even stay there unless you just really love it. I think I would start looking for something else.
Assuming most busy cities are AROUND the same, e.g., miami versus ny versus chicago, you're underpaid unless those yearly bonsues are at least 33.33% of net revenue you are bringing to the firm.
I am in the same shoes making 90k in a smaller market, but, my bonsues will bring me to around 150k. Even thats generally low for our year, however, i have an active case load of like.....40....and coming from a big firm, i feel like my feet are on the desk, being bored.
So, take that info as you will.
You’re being insanely exploited. I started 72k no PI experience in one of the lowest COL states. That was year 1
I’m in a low cost of living area. A base here would be around $75K. On top of that, you would be looking at a minimum of 5% off firm cases and at least 33 1/3% on cases you originate. You should be making at least $200K/year.
You need to get out ASAP. I'm a 2nd year and make 70k in LCOL area with a percentage, 50% on generated cases, and have been handling my own docket since the day I got sworn in.
