I listened to this this morning. Thank you so very much for sharing. Very enlightening and, it definitely makes sense. I now better understand that micro aggression, which is daily and insidious is affecting health outcomes. This also leads to generational trauma and continued health issues and health outcomes (*Nadine Burke). This is my question, when working w black/brown 5th/6th graders (I provide social emotional support) what do I need to doing that I might not be doing? What do I need to listen for? Feedback is appreciated! Thanks in advance!
Nadine Burke- pioneer in trauma as it relates to health. It’s fascinating material.

It’s funny because I’m the bowl leader - I established it. So, what I’m doing here should be obvious especially since you found content I curated and shared helpful.
Get it, saw your response. Those are very basic strategies for me. My question is for deeper understanding. I’m prob not asking correctly but I’ll find answers elsewhere. Thank you!

Always willing to support. There is a wonderful lady who is an expert on SEL. I’ll find her info and post it here when I do.
Thank you so much for sharing this. We have such a long way to go! ☹️

First my “I’m no expert” disclaimer. SEL is much bigger than some people think and I believe pursuing establishment of a culture that is caring and supportive to students is job one. Also, weekly (or daily) short SEL lessons - perhaps as morning warm ups is another way to establish a sense of community in the classroom or the campus. Being aware that often BISOC (s for students) are frequently taught compliance versus curiosity. But, really, their just kids. Create opportunities to hear their voice and concerns, support their creativity, give them the benefit of the doubt, & implement their ideas.

Oh! I meant to hit “uplifting” not funny. I’m the bowl leader, so your question, ”what am I doing here”…that’s funny! 😆😎
Why is my question so funny to you? I was being sincere!
Thank you! I do our SEL activities in the school and I’m always interested in fine tuning my skills. I think I was looking for more of an individual approach/situation. Most of my work w students (other than sped evals and crisis work) is one on one or group work. I was thinking about what I might need to do differently in those situations. How do I listen to the students material differently than how I’m currently listening? Maybe I don’t t need to do anything differently, but that’s what I’m interested in learning.
