Short game >>> Long game. Figure out how to close the hole out in 3 shots or less from 120 yards out. Rest takes care of itself.
I've read this book - "Every shot counts" by Mark Broadie, a professor at Columbia Business School. He's the guy that created the "strokes gained" stat that you see on the PGA tour, and one of the TLDR points is that long game > short game, be it on tour or for the weekend golfer...
But I have had some poor scoring rounds where I've driven the ball well.
Begin a workout regime that helps with flexibility and strength, that will help you to increase distances. As for practice, get into a habit of working on a different part of your game during the morning session prior to lunch, then play 9 holes, then work on your weaknesses from the round in the afternoon. Eventually build in high trajectory and low trajectory shots, both cut and draw .. putting and chipping are a daily grind … you should get down to scratch with this regime. Don’t leave the range until you’ve hit 500 balls minimum btw..
No the 500 would be your morning (or afternoon) range session with a specific area your focusing on for the day. Woods or Irons or wedges .. etc
Course management. Knowing where to hit it will take 3 shots off a round easy without having to change a single part of your game.
Agree. Check out the DECADE system
Golfing everyday can help.... But the key will be doing the correct things while practicing and playing. So key will be finding a coach that you meld with and that can give you things to work on. Most folks can't just head out and practice and get a lot better, especially in the single digit handicap space.
Well, where do you struggle?
Sounds like you know what to do! Find a way to shave 3 putts every 9 holes, and get your irons more consistent

dont forget cardio. its easy to lose a couple strokes at the end of a round if you are walking and tired
I got to 7 also. It took really perfecting skills to get to 2. I hope to get to scratch. It’s about 3x harder and 3x as much practice to get from 7 to 2 as from 12 to 7. I had to come to terms with some swing habits that couldn’t take me any further than 7… and I got to 7 thanks to my putter and discovered a plateau there until I really worked on my delivery into the ball… that’s where the consistency comes from. 🏌🏻♀️
