So sorry! This is horrible! I don't have any advice for you, but maybe you might want to seek legal assistance. These companies can do whatever they want, especially in a tight job market.
Thank you for your compassion. I did seek legal assistance and pursued my case all the way through the courts. Unfortunately, the system failed me — my case was never given a fair trial, and the judges ignored key protections under the ADA.
Companies like FedEx often rely on delay, denial, and legal maneuvering rather than accountability. My goal now is to raise awareness so that other employees know their rights and don’t feel silenced.

File a complaint with the EEOO. Although it will probably get the same answer, filing it will put them on their radar as well.

I can't reply to your reply, so here goes....
I totally hear you! I was abused for years by my last employer. I have had government agencies use the term retaliation after reviewing the evidence I have. Yet do they actually investigate the abuse? NO! They all point to some other agency and pass the buck. At least you got some vindication. Most of us don't even get that.
I hate that companies are doing this. I was threatened with termination because of a medical emergency that’s had me out more than my allotted time. I had no control over it. There is so empathy in the workplace anymore. I’m so sorry for you and hope you have a speedy recovery and a speedy resolution, you deserve justice.
I’m so sorry you went through that — no one should be threatened with losing their job for a medical emergency they couldn’t control. That was exactly my experience with FedEx. Instead of showing empathy, they retaliated against me the very same day as my protected medical activity, attending my first mammogram after my breast cancer diagnosis.
Thank you for your kind words. I’m speaking out because what happened to me is happening to far too many others, and employees deserve both justice and compassion in the workplace.
Hello
Breast cancer does not discriminate, but FedEx does.
Hi Brenda ~ I was so disheartened by your story.
It’s tragic to hear what these large companies are getting away with. I see that this might have happened many years ago and I hope your recovery has been going well.
All my best to you!
Kindest,
Joni
Thank you so much, Joni. I wasn't able to respond directly to your post. I really appreciate your support and understanding. Unfortunately, what happened to me is not unique — many employees at large companies like FedEx face discrimination or retaliation when dealing with medical issues. That’s why I continue to share my story: to hold corporations accountable and to show others that they’re not alone. I’m glad to hear your sister has also recovered — it gives hope to all of us going through similar challenges.
I was just let go under the same circumstances….. I’m filing with the dept of labor. I have wrongful termination, discrimination and intimidation. Good luck to you!!
I’m so sorry you’re going through this. I know firsthand how painful and isolating it feels when termination comes after raising concerns or while facing a health challenge. You’re absolutely right to file - retaliation and discrimination are not just “bad management,” they are violations of the law.
Stay strong and document everything. Speaking up isn’t easy, but your voice matters. Wishing you strength and persistence as you pursue accountability.
Competitors like UPS, DHL, Kuehne + Nagel, and XPO Logistics pride themselves on being employers of choice in the logistics industry. I encourage you to take note of how FedEx treats long-term employees facing serious health conditions.
No worker should fear losing their career for seeking medical care.
Well, I had a friend of mine that worked for FedEx as well; she was battling some medical issues and was forced to retire out after she returned. I didn't ask too many questions, but I know that this was about the medical leave that she had to take. Yes, we need to call out these large corporations over these issues .... they need to be held accountable. I am so glad that now you have healed and recovered; my sister was battling BC at one time but she also has recovered well. :-)
So sorry to hear you're going through this. I would seek legal counsel as well. This is so unjust.
You're not alone. Happens all the time.
OMG. I am so sorry.
#1: call your unemployment office and get signed up.
#2. call an employment lawyer.
Thank you. This has been a seven-year legal nightmare.
