After spending years in the big 4 audit, has anyone transitioned to go to law school? What made you realize it was the right move?

It is only worth it to go to law school if you know exactly what it is that you want to do. You should also understand that not all fields of law pay the same and many pay less than accounting. If you want to get into biglaw, your best chance is to go to a T14 law school and be in the top of your class. If you want to be a public defender or DA, understand that your salary will be very low.

It’s a common move. I worked with a Partner who use to say “Law school classrooms are filled with former Big 4 associates/seniors who don’t know what they want to do”

funnylike

Thought about it. I despise reading agreements in our audit files, which I think has kept me from making the leap.

I took the LSAT, got like a 155? I think, it was a while ago. My lowest section by far was Reading and I realized that I literally hate reading the detail that would be necessary for law school. Also had paid off my accounting student loans and didn’t want to open more.

like

My GPA was 3.5 which I think is too low for any law school with a good ROI

I think it is a pretty common move.
One of my college friend was an auditor at MM firm. He went to law school and now he is an associate at a V3 law firm.

PM me if you want details but I made the change from tax and don't regret it in the slightest. As a first year in biglaw, I worked maybe 15% more than I did in public, but my salary was over triple what I earned as a tax senior, even more if you factor in bonuses.

Basically, if you think public accounting work is easy, you know you're too smart for accounting, and don't mind working long hours, give law school a shot.

Oh my god. I am finally done with the CPA. It took me 5 years and I failed so many times, lost credit, spent thousands of dollars on different study materials, coffees, pens, etc. I can’t believe this day has finally come for me. If you’re struggling please don’t give up and don’t compare yourself to someone else. It will eventually happen for you if you keep pushing!
