Anyone ever brought a same-sex plus one to a company holiday party? How was it perceived?

I have. I did not feel anything different in particular. People who are close to me came over to meet my partner and stuck around to chat and those I usually don’t engage with just stayed away, probably judging/gossiping but I don’t really care about them anyways. That’s my experience when I was in a relatively conservative office in the Midwest.

back when i was in a relationship, i brought my boyfriend along to some thanksgiving and xmas holiday parties at work where a plus one was acceptable. nobody reacted weirdly. my teammates were all just excited to meet him.

like

Yes. No issues whatsoever for me. Although I’ve been in two large offices where I’m not the only gay person. And if anyone at the party has an issue, that’s on them. Live your life for you.

Yep in the UK. Similar to EY 1 - my close colleagues didn’t treat me any differently, more distant colleagues remained distant. Definitely more eyes on us as we arrived, but people chilled out

like

Yes. Never thought twice about it and nor should you. It's 2021

I have, at two different offices I've worked at. One in a rural Midwest office. Didn't have any issues, but I was already out to most people in the office.

I have taken my husband to our events for many years. I was more nervous about it than anyone else was. He has made good friend with many of the partners, their spouses and other team members so I have to say while I was hesitant, I found nothing but a welcomed reception. And yes I was promoted over the course of the years that I have been attending so I don't think there were negative implications on my trajectory.

Looking for advice:
My dept has 2 directors. One is so rude. The other ignores the issue. The previous HR director told me to report any issues because she was building a case (not appropriate info to share, I know). She's since left and there's a new HR director. This rude guy has recently sent me several very rude things through email and I'm debating how to handle it. Is it worth it to talk to HR? Im worried it'll just make things worse since none of it is "wrong", just rude and insensitive.

My boss in my creative agency threatened to fire me because I, a male, came into work with my nails painted. HR is having a very complicated day today as I found out I could take legal action if he does fire me since we don't have an established dress code that has any guidelines against male nail polish wearing.

We had a team touchbase where we as a group were asked our concerns regarding year end. I raised my concerns about staffing/expectations (the team is 75% new) since last year was demanding with us being up to 1 AM the day before deadline.

My director was on the call but not my VP. My VP reached out today and said he doesn’t appreciate hearing such comments on the grapevine but I was confused b/c all i did was answer the question I was asked.

Hey sharks!

I have prior experience of React+AWS (2yrs)
Then joined an org where I was bound to work on plain js and outdated libs (1 yr)
I gave numerous interviews.
Common feedback : You're very strong in Js but seems like you're not day to day coding in React (which is absolutely true).
In current org work pressure is quite much, tough to practice seperately. (Theoretical knowledge of react is good, but need practical knowledge)
Requested my org to assign me react proj, they didnt.
Plz help!
