Anyone ever dropped full coverage on their cars? My cars are paid off and considering getting liability only and self insuring. How do you weigh the risk/ reward?

Full coverage: $1895/yr
Liability only: $1046/yr (save $849)

2 cars:
- 2014 tundra, kbb private party value $15k
- 2019 suburban, value $19k

(Side note: holy s*** I just paid 34k less than 2 yrs ago for that suburban. I'm never buying a non-Toyota/Lexus again.)

I’ve dropped to just liability in the past, but only when the car was worth about below $10k and I planned on driving into the ground. It’s been a while since I’ve done it.

I would keep full coverage.

Sure but if you didn’t have an accident or the other party was at fault, then you save $850/year. You would need to go 20 years without an at fault accident for this to pay off. I would probably keep the insurance.

I ditched collision but kept comprehensive coverage. If someone hits me, it’s covered under my uninsured/underinsured coverages, so if someone hits me and they are found at fault, I’ll get reimbursed.

My premiums went from $2200 per year to $1400 per year, and since I bundled my coverage with my condo insurance, my homeowners premium went from $905 to $552 per year.

Just wondering if I leave for holidays, will I not be allowed back. Any sort of clarification you might have is helpful. FYI - I was in US before that June ruling came out. Thx

Need advice. Have some credit card debt that I’ve been working to pay off. Have made progress but want to lower it quickly. We have dual income, with a house (~$300k in equity), 1 kid and 1 on the way. I’ve looked into debt consolidation via HELOC but also have ~$80k in vested equity in my company that I haven’t touched. Get equity refreshes every year. Would it be smarter to cash out $15k-$20k of that to pay debt vs. a HELOC at ~5% given that will still require mthly payments

Seeking feedback on GAP insurance. I had a family member who purchased a car in June or July. They were in an accident last week and it sounds like the car will be declared a total loss. Never dealt with this before, so wanted to ask if anyone has ever had an instance where the insurance didn't cover the outstanding balance of the loan and the insured then owed money? Car was $35k, $7k down, finance $28k. Gap insurance is through lender, not auto insurer.
