Going on a calorie restriction was the only way I could lose weight while I was still on the pill. It wasn't a significant amount of weight loss, but enough to maintain a good balance between my previous weight and the amount I gained.
There are a variety of factors -- how long have you been taking it & what are you on, specifically? I've had a lot of issues with birth control over the years, so I've become an accidental expert.
So, birth control containing progestin lead to more weight gain. Just weaning off of birth control won't automatically make you lose all of the weight. You'll likely have to really work to get it off, but some of it is probably from fluid retention, so you may lose 5 pounds or so just from stopping it. I know it's really frustrating. Have you talked to your doctor about the weight gain - have they given you any recommendations?
I've been having difficulties losing weight since I have PCOS. So I don't know if If this is because of the birth control pills that I am currently taking or is it because of my condition. My OB-Gyne told me that I will have difficulty conceiving because of my PCOS but I don't want to take chances so I am taking the pills as well.
I had to cut off my dairy, saturated fats, and sugar intake to help with the reason why I had to take birth control pills in the first place, so I didn't struggle much with the side effect of gaining weight.
I do. I thik it has something to do with the hormones in the pills altering how your metabolism functions. Even though I still keep up with working out regularly and maintaining a balanced diet, I still experienced weight gain and difficulties in losing it.
Do you still stick to your exercise routine? I struggle with losing weight too, which is why I gave up on it and just stuck with trying to maintain my body now. It's definitely harder while on the pill.
Keep in mind that your body's excessive retention of water is most likely the cause of the weight gain. Over time, your body will get used to the hormones.
It’s been 2 years
Yes! And I've talked to my OB-GYN about it. She then advised me that we should try a different pill specifically with a lower dose of progestin or estrogen.
I gain more weight because of my birth control. The most challenging thing to get beyond is that. This year, it might need to be changed. Anyone in this group get advice to switch their birth control due to weight issues?
I’m now looking into a lower dose birth control
That might just be the case for me. It's been months seen I've been trying to lose weight but I never really saw much progress.
I was put on birth control because of my hormonal imbalance. Not sure if it's because of the birth control or my hormones per se because I did gain weight before I was on birth control. I'm still have difficulties, nevertheless.
Anyone able to lose weight gained from birth control while still on the pill?
Yes, I made sure that I was managing any increased appetite by eating low calorie foods that had a lot of texture or activity involved, such as carrots. I also literally waited it out. Takes a few months to adjust, and the main thing is making your exercise and food intake (plus mabye some things like carrots) very consistent and at a healthy manageable level. If you didn't have weight gain issues before the pill and were fairly fit, simply keep it up and maybe add in a little extra exercise for these first months. Also do a lot of stress relieving activities. Your body isn't sure how to measure everything that's going on and the more you can reduce any noise the better.
I really do. No matter how hard I try. But is it really because of the birth control? What did your doctors say about it? What birth control are you guys on?
Hey. It's a normal side effect. I have a few friends who struggled the same thing.
Right. But. I need answers to stop the struggle lol
I experience the same thing. I was on birth control for two years and I gained about 15 pounds. I am trying to lose weight now.
While still on the pill?
Not my personal experience. This is what my sister is going through right now. The doctor said that the pills may have altered her metabolism.
