I regret not doing one when I had the chance.
Why? Did you want to switch career paths?
Yup.
I did mine quite a while ago and did it to gain knowledge, not as a pivot point for my career. My company paid for part of it (~40%, if memory serves) and I got a good comp bump from them upon completion, but the actual education part of it was quite disappointing--very little of what I learned in the program has actually been applicable in my career. The amount of debt I took on did not outweigh my higher comp trajectory or the limited useful knowledge I gained from the program.
Given *my* circumstances, a targeted masters would likely have been better suited to what I was hoping to get out of it.
I did go to a top school. I got my MBA about 15 years ago, still pretty early in my career, and for the amount of debt I was taking on at the time, I wanted to get the education out of it, too.
I don't think the resume branding, network, or the education were worth that amount of debt, but I was atypical in that I didn't use the MBA as a pivot.
Went to a 25-30 ranked school went from 100 pre to 245 2yrs post
Pmo at a tech company.
Finished my MBA 2 years ago. In the same time my TC went from 68k to 188k
Nope; my only regret is not applying earlier!
Did a PTMBA to transition. By the time I was done my salary, at my then employer, had increased substantially to what it was when I started the MBA (combination of promos and internal transfer). Still managed to jump to consulting for a 20% pay rise. I wish I had done it earlier. Just earlier, not FT.
What’re y’all thoughts on doing it remote? Is it worth it or in person is the only way to go?
Rising Star
Heck no. Had a full ride and basically chilled and day drank for 18 months. After being in the military, doing a few hours of school 4 days a week and having no responsibility was so relaxing.
Nope. None at all.
How many MBAs do you have :O
Regret not doing more or better prepared whilst doing the MBA.
Doubled my salary, lived abroad (in 2 different countries) for a year, had an amazing time, met some great people.
Fantastic experience.
Insead?
One of the smartest things I ever did. Comp is easily triple what I was making before and growing faster.
Sample bias ITT
Not one bit.
Definitely not and curious to find out if anybody actually regrets it
I’m pretty sure studies show a significant portion of MBA recipients regret their degree (mostly because of the cost/debt). I’d guess people on FB and in consulting in general are a bit skewed towards a positive outlook since they have much more post-MBA success than the general population.
