All the following are my half, split with fiance. £720 rent
£50 council tax
Around £60 bills (WiFi, water, heat and electricity)
£300 food (groceries & wine)
£20/30 on economist subscription, smol laundry, who gives a crap loo roll
£200 travel (my commute & travel for social things - well, currently £0)
And around £100-200 on fun stuff a month - drinks, eating out, exhibitions, cinema etc
Often go over this if I shop (around £100-£200 on books, newspapers, clothes/makeup)

Re saving in London, I look(ed) for free stuff to do, the main thing however is that we both take in lunch 90% of the time. Healthier and cheaper. I do cave and buy the odd coffee out though. We’d like to stop paying rent and start paying a mortgage eventually, after all. Saving for the wedding also means I try not to splash money around too much, though sometimes I cave and spend way too much in short space of time! I avoid this by not going into shops or online shopping!! I also try to shop in charity shops for clothes and books, which is a fab way to save money!

For my spouse and I and our young child:

£2100 mortgage
£120 leasehold costs including building insurance and ground rent
£200 council tax
£120 water, utilities, internet, mobile phone
£1100 childcare
£300 groceries
£210 public transportation
£80 subscriptions (2 newspapers, 2 magazines, 1 quarterly, spotify, Netflix, Amazon)
£20 nappies

We go out and eat out a decent bit so that figure can range from 300-1000/month (less since we had a child, but we still eat lunch out and occasionally go to nice dinners/ theatre / etc)

like

£2,250 on rent+council tax
£1,200 on family groceries/miscellaneous school expenses
£200 on transportation
£200 on other food (mostly convenience meals and coffees)
£150 on utilities (gas/water/electricity)
£100 on internet and mobile phones
£400 entertainment and miscellaneous

If you're a single income family and have expensive taste in food, that's about the minimum I'd say

I’m sole breadwinner with a SO at home with our kids. We spend:

£2100 rent
£350 council tax
£300 childcare classes
£200 fuel
£950 mortgage
£100 WiFi, bills
£25 Insurances

£150/week groceries
£80/week food out

Saving - all about reducing fixed costs as much as possible. I have a buy to let flat and have just paid off a significant chunk of the mortgage to reduce monthly outgoings; I’ll use the spare cash to replenish savings and then pay down another chunk.

Aha makes sense. Chunky council tax too. Your costs are similar to mine

like

£1,000 on rent (all utilities and taxes included)
£60 groceries (ASDA delivery + a few incidentals along the way)
£70 transportation (I live quite central so I walk as much as I can and take the bus otherwise)
£150 drinks and meals out
£70 mobile phone

For saving money, I find free events with Time Out London. Socially, I’m quick to suggest a gathering @ someone’s house or a picnic when it’s warm.

A3 hopefully not with the current rules!

Hello Fishes,

I currently hold offers from below:
IBM - 15.5 LPA
CTS - 18.5 LPA
PWC India - 16 LPA
Oracle Financial Services Software(OFSS) - 21 LPA

Planning to join OFSS as I will work in product development team and can work in any shift timings with WFH.

Today I had my 2nd round interview with EY GDS and got rejected.
Do I need to worry about this and feel low?
Could EY GDS would have been better instead of OFSS?

Please provide your valuable inputs.

My partner and I bought our home back in 2020. We got a good deal, low rate. But we want to move into a more spacious SFH. However, as we all know this market is crazy. Everything we want costs $620k+ and bc of rates it makes our mortgage estimates $3500+. We are currently paying $2k. And it looks we need to sell the house simultaneously as look for a new one or our contingency isn’t as attractive. I know it’s based on personal circumstances. But what would you do? - not move, sell and buy?

Will be moving to the Bay area for a new job which pays a bit under 200k. I know SF is very expensive so just trying to gauge what would be a reasonable amount to spend on rent. I have no debt and decent savings. Bringing my car with me and will be commuting to Marin most days, but looking to live in SF. Otherwise tend to be fairly frugal and like to cook.

Any thoughts/suggestions are greatly appreciated!

My superiors are asking me to contact CEOs of debtors to chase payments. We’re in B2B and payments are usually 30 days or more. As soon as we get someone over that and they don’t provide a payment date, I’m being asked to contact their CEOs somehow and demand payment. I think it’s dumb, will hurt the relationship and I also don’t want to ruin my reputation. Thoughts?
