It's kind of amazing that people used to think he was smart. I mean, some people, including sycophants in the tech press, said he was smart, so everyone just sort of went along with it. But now that we get a look into his mind it's shocking. In front of our eyes he's turning into that guy who always used to post about being in a hipster coffee shop where everyone was talking about how awesome Trump was. Yeah, sure.
He is smart in some ways and absolutely bonkers in others. Money and status have definitely changed him- or made him more comfortable showing all sides of himself.
As a lifelong Dem can't say I or anyone else I know is excited about the prospect of Trump/Vance, and honestly I think Vance makes things even worse. The more I learn about Elon the less impressed I am.

He's surrounded by sycophants. He has no idea what normal looks like anymore, if he ever did.
Lifelong Dem since first voting for Al Gore. Obviously not voting Trump, but I understand the appeal of Vance. I do know people in SF that moved from Not Trump to maybe that’s less worse than Kamala.
Hate almost everything about his politics, but he’s a young Senator, self-made, humble roots, successful Silicon Valley VC, well educated, marine veteran in a multi-racial marriage. Fairly liberal director Ron Howard made a movie based on Vance’s memoir. Again, hate his politics but I understand the appeal of him as a candidate.
