Accenture has a Men's ERG, and I'm planning to start one at my company. It's a good place to discuss "traditional" perceptions of what makes a successful male leader and challenge that with more modern values that are relevant to a growing portion of men in the workplace (e.g. don't be aggressive, don't need to be 6'+ to be an executive, etc.)
I've had a young professionals ERG, and a caregivers ERG, caring for children, elderly, or disabled
Wow that sounds like a great idea!
I think a lot of the hesitation is fear of embarrassment or worse when initiating an ERG . The sort of thing you’re talking about really emphasizes the Inclusion in DEI
I’ve seen ERGs for all sorts of things like connecting parents, networking for young professionals, members of military, public speaking, and leaders of tomorrow.
That’s a really good point. I don’t want to step on toes of either ERGs but also the representing group. I appreciate your recommendations!
If there are, I've never seen any.
The purpose of ERGs is to foster a diverse and inclusive workplace, so I wouldn’t think so because frankly, the workplace and business landscape is likely already inclusive of, and catered specifically, to you.
Maybe try starting an interest group, like a monthly culture celebration, and rotate between different cultures but include European cultures on the roster. Rotate by continent so that everyone has a seat at the table. That’s much more inclusive than an Old White Man ERG and is still really interesting.
I’m sorry but I don’t see it as a game. I support everyone of all colors and backgrounds. It’s disheartening to hear that people are still making assumptions and treating each other negatively based on skin color. I’m a minority and support my fellow humans, it’s wild that it’s bothers you.
Rising Star
Well, we have groups for working parents and for military veterans (assuming you meant minority from a classification perspective). I have not seen anything like your European heritage suggestion implemented anywhere.
