Extended release or Instant Release? I’ve been taking adderall on and off for 10+ years, depending on when I need it. When I was in high school I took XR and it royally fucked my sleeping habits, didn’t matter if I took it at 6am. I stopped taking it after a couple years because of that, and didn’t take adderall for like 4 or 5 years before getting into consulting. Now I take a 5mg IR occasionally when I really need to focus or have deadlines, and unless I take it late in the day it dosent have as much of an affect on my sleep if anything at all. I will note, if I take it like 3+ days in a row it starts to affect my sleep so I usually take a day or 2 off
Yeah it's normal unfortunately. I eventually just stopped taking meds (diagnosed at 19)
5mg is smallest dose. Are you taking it in the morning?
I had to quit drinking coffee after starting Adderall.
Have you had your blood sugar checked? Many Americans don't know that they have a high A1C.
How is your sleep hygiene? I started using a sleep eye mask
High blood sugar is disruptive to sleep.
A1C is the best indicator of high blood sugar, not the instant test.
Kind of wild how bodies can be so different. I take 50mg vyvanse in the morning and 10-15mg adderall after lunch and sleep like a baby
Being able to easily sleep while on stimulants is one of the many indicators of ADHD.
I take 5mg adderall but need 25mg trazodone (half of a 50mg pill) to fall asleep.
So to answer some of your questions , I've been taking the 5mg fast acting pill. And on top of that I will usually have 1-2 cups of coffee, which is something I've been doing for decades. I also work quite late into the evening so by the time I am ready to call it a day, it's like 7 or 8pm. I try to go to bed by 10 pm but usually end up falling asleep around midnight. I wake up at 5 or 6am. I do this pretty much mon-fri. By the time we are close to the weekend, I am exhausted. :(
Sooo! Most people with ADHD pre-diagnosis self medicate with caffeine so maybe it's time to cut back on that now that you're otherwise medicated.
I had to switch to decaf coffee when I started stimulants. It’s been really helpful in falling asleep at night.
Are you female? I haven’t slept well since I turned 51 (54 now) It’s not related to my meds unless I take them too late in the day
I’d suggest taking days off from them and see how you sleep then. Also cut back on the coffee as the meds will sub for the caffeine in some ways.
You may also want to take the meds very first thing in the morning and/ take a lower dose
Appreciate I’m late to the party here, but I take ashwaghanda and melatonin at night. I have no issues sleeping - try either or both? I am in the UK but I found a site that ships melatonin from the US (not available without prescription in the UK). I also take 25mg XR methylphenidate at about 8am for reference, and 3 cups of coffee (6.30am, 9am, 1pm)
