Don't accept the offer unless they get to a base and bonus you are comfortable with. If the job isn't worth the compensation they are offering though I would question whether it is the right opportunity to begin with. If they don't give on salary you need to work in a large bonus for foregone income.
By law previous employer is not allowed to provide that information. They can only confirm dates employed. Cannot share reason no longer employed either.
Disclosing a previous employee's salary isn't illegal, it's up to the employer
You never need to prove your current earnings so just tell them the number you will be making upon promotion
If they want to hire you now, they will hire you then. It's only a matter of few weeks. If they rush you unnecessarily, you know it's not a long term opportunity.
D2 you absolutely do. My friend got an offer from Deloitte and over stated his salary by $10k to get a higher offer. After singing the contract and before he began Deloitte retracted the offer because they contacted his old firm and found he wasn't making what he said he was.
I would be adamant about them at least matching the new base and bonus structure.
No matter how much he tried to justify it the hiring partner didn't budge. So be honest. But you can tell them that you will compare their offer to what you believe your post-year end numbers will be and then give them an estimate
That's illegal D3 - employers aren't allowed to disclose personal info other than the dates of employment, so you're being lied to by your friend or they are mistaken
Lol I thought it was illegal too which is why i was okay with him telling an inflated figure. But it's not illegal. And although your previous employer is not legally bound to disclose your salary they do get contacted by your potential/current employer and asked all this information. So be careful.
And no definitely not lying because I personally called one of the people and tried to explain the situation. Also this particular friend was my roommate at the time and I saw him sit at home for the next 8 months before he finally got another job
