Been working remote for 4 years but got offered a job with 2X comp but it requires travel. A bit nervous if it’s worth it given I’ll be away from my partner, money would be good but the relationship is most important.

Thoughts from people who experienced similar?

Now that I’m remote, and I see what my life is like, I don’t think I’ll ever go back to heavy travel work. I love my life now with my family and I know for sure travel would require sacrificing time with them. That’s not a trade off I’m willing to make anymore. Will just work harder to find opportunities that allow me to be remote.

I agree, things have been great. Appreciate your response

I would take it. If you only last a year, it’s still worth it imo

Lol

Do you have kids or just spouse?

Depends. A person like me loves to travel and see new places.I’m a family person with fantastic relationship with my spouse ajd 2 daughters.

Plus it gives me opportunity to fly business and enjoy lunch and dinner at lavish restaurants at company expenses plus handsome out-of-pocket expenses!

I bring back small gifts for my spouse and kids after every trip and they have never complained about my business for past 22 years :-)

It depends on your current income and that of your partner. What is your salary now and what could it be?

My wife and I just had our second child, and we have also been dealing with her cervical cancer diagnosis. It has been a stressful year, to say the least. I want to do something nice for her, but money is tight right now because of the cancer treatment costs, and her being on unpaid leave because of the cancer treatments. What is something low cost I can do that will be a nice “couples thing” so we can de-stress, but also make her feel special?

Hello, I recently was reached out to by an in-house recruiter at a similar but slightly different company than the one I currently work for. The recruiter provided a base range and an OTE range. The lower end of that range is what I am currently making. The higher end of that range is almost 200k more than my current comp. The role is almost identical. I wasn’t looking to move, but that higher end range would set my family up very nicely for our goals. But I am happy at my current company. Help?

She’s on my leg and she’s snoring, but I don’t want to move since she looks so comfy. I’m her slave. Planning her birthday— go to the dog beach + eat at a restaurant with a doggie menu + get a pup cake at a dog cafe + spend a night at a hotel (having trouble finding hotels that’s allow dogs >50lbs 😒). What else can I do for her? She has too many toys & doesn’t play with them often. No need for more treats since she eats more treats than kibbles. But what gift can I get her?

Do you pay your credit cards in full every month?

I ask because I’ve let my credit spending get a bit lax since moving and adopting a puppy recently, so I haven’t been paying them off in full every month like I used to (though still well above the minimum payment, and keeping utilization at 30% or under). It got me thinking about how many people adhere to this advice.

I’m in this business to cure my inferiority complex. Making lots of money, working with fortune 500 clients and walking the streets of NYC with a suit, tie and briefcase makes me feel important and worthy.

I often wish I could be like my law school friends who either moved to small towns or have public sector or non profit jobs, wear sweaters and jeans to work and make far less than me, but are happy with their lives, feel a sense of meaning with their work and don’t need external validation.

Recently started a new project, everyone’s remote, handful know each other, most know no one. Few newer hires. I want to set-up some kind of laid back happy-hour w/out work but I’m failing to find a way to make that happen with 10ish people and I am trying to avoid the mandatory fun vibe.
