I think that building rapport with customers is one of those things that is always going to be important. I really feel like to be good at sales you have to be good at building relationships and networking and building rapport is part of that. I still think its very important.
I think rapport will always matter. Some sales can be done via computer, or text, and it can make it seem less personable. But there are times when the personal connection will save the day. So far as cost goes, that personal connection can do a lot to explain or make the case for why the cost is what it is. Or it can help diminish doubts or skepticism. If you can't do much on the price, you may be able to do a lot to smooth that over.
