Can anyone share their nighttime routine to wind down for the evening? I struggle to fall asleep most nights and wake up exhausted in the morning

Panic about work, chain nicotine pouches and caffeine until 2 am when mind and body surrender.

Heavy on the panic about work part

Bedtime routines work for me. Mine is bath, book, bed— oh and workout first thing in the morning. Find what works for you and stick with it. It will take a little while for your mind and body to align and rest into whatever your chosen bedtime routine is but once you’re acclimated it’s a total game changer.

Reading has been helpful. I just need to get consistent with getting to bed at a set time

I found I can fall asleep pretty easily once I started watching tv downstairs before going to bed, I think it helps my body feel physically relaxed. I also use non habit forming Benadryl as needed. Other helpful tweaks are walking outside in the morning, exercising before 9 pm, using f.lux to block blue light on my laptop and turning the blue light off on my phone. I struggled with insomnia since the pandemic and previously found that magnesium, sleepytime tea, and melatonin would work at first then have to be switched out.

like

Do you mind sharing how you turn off the blue light on your phone?

I use breathing exercises in the Finch app as part of my daily checklist. Starting my bedtime routine at a consistent time has helped, too.

like

Is Finch a paid subscription?

For me I need sleep music which usually is like nature sounds like a rainforest. I'm on medication that has sleepiness as a side effect and some days it turns my brain off quickly and other times not for an hour or more. I also have anxiety around work DAILY, plus college as I'm a full time student while working full time, AND anxiety around issues of our house being under construction FOREVERRRRRRRRRRRRR. Not exaggerating lol our kitchen, living room and laundry room have been under renovation since mid March after a serious plumbing leak. 😵‍💫

Anyways there are prescriptions you can take that would assist if you aren't able to have anything else that works. Hydroxyzine is a game changer usually when I remember to take it (helps with anxiety and sleep).

Anyone had luck finding a good therapist who actually understands ADHD? Getting advice like "try taking a walk every day" and "practice these breathing exercises" is driving me crazy. I need actual solutions and shit, not just platitudes and internet worksheets.

It’s looking like my job is gonna start asking us to return to the office. We have an open office plan and before we wfh FT I would save all my work for my telework days bc I can’t get shit done in the office. I’m having major anxiety about them making this decision. I know I’m not alone that people don’t want to return to the office. My ADHD and the open office just makes working from the office a nightmare and I’m feeling really nervous and kind of resentful.

I have tried absolutely everything I can think of to limit distractions during the work day and none of it has worked. Working from home has only made it 100 times worse because now I know there are other more interesting things to be distracted by all around me. What do you do to hold focus during working hours? What will get me to be able to work for longer than 35 minutes without getting distracted?

Stimulants and sweating! I’m going back to the office and never used them while in the office, I don’t want to look or be sweaty haha any advice? I also don’t want to look weird drinking 6L of water as I do in person

Any tips for organizing a bedroom, closet, dresser & bathroom? My teen has IADHD, and low executive functioning. Her room looks like a land mine. Clean clothes are mixed in with dirty, her desk is a disaster, she won’t let go of clothes she’s outgrown, drawers are open with clothes hanging out. A therapist said to close her door if we don’t want to see it but it’s more than that. She needs this important life skill & I don’t know how to help. Easier to organize w/o her but that’s not a solution.

I told my boss about my ADHD in confidence because I was looking for a small accommodation (working from home x2 a week). I got it, but now I lowkey feel like she told other people in the office. I'm not sure if I'm being paranoid but someone I'm friendly with in HR has been acting weird since Monday, which is when I told my boss. Would she have to tell HR legally? What should I do?

I just started meds yesterday and the change in my focus and attention to detail is mind blowing. My only concern is, just yesterday I had a tough feedback session with my manager around how I’m taking too long to complete my work, giving them anxiety around close deadlines. I’m new in the job (3 months in). Should I explain anything about my adhd to my manager or just wait for them to notice the change in me?

What types of work accommodations can help people with ADHD? I am starting to believe 35+ of having not managed my ADHD has really negatively impacted me in career growth etc. I'm realizing a lot of things about myself are because of the ADHD. I want better for myself and family but 1. I don't enjoy the same things forever 2. Imposter syndrome and RSD make me believe it's acceptable to start over in new places at low salaries. 3. Typical college won't work for me. 4. I also can't relocate.

At some points, I feel I am becoming a problem magnet 🧲. Anything I touch or get involved in, tun into a nightmare despite doing my best not to screw up. Just restarted stimulants and already I'm dealing with twitches again. Does anyone else get these? No type of pain or anything just every once and a while my body will twitch strongly. Afterward I feel normal, but it's a bit annoying, and I can't control it at all which is a little disconcerting. Don't remember this from when I took stimulants as a kid, but it's been a while.

I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 12. My family did not opt to put me on medication. I illegally discovered Adderall in college. Worked incredible. Got diagnosed after college & after having been fired from my first job. Passed the CPA exams on Adderall. Went off of it again. I do everything well at my job except for attention to detail within my excel files & emails. Will taking ADHD medication really fix this? Does anyone else have this issue and was it resolved by taking medication?
