I made same move. Above is correct. Less difficult to get promoted and less investment in you as an individual. The people are all great and smart as well. It's all the same
My advice is to look very closely at culture and peers. Be sure they align to your goals - expect some big differences
Finished my first year at KPMG after leaving DC. Overall much less competitive culture. Far fewer partners and less bureaucratic BS to deal with. DC invests and grooms practitioners much more than at KPMG which means you’ll most likely run circles around your peer group here. Very happy I made the switch
Former DC now a KPMG partner. Deloitte is an excellent firm. We are a “globally scaled boutique”. Deloitte feels and operates far more like Accenture. I am actually surprised more Deloitters don’t make the switch.
Digital/tech can be seen through several lenses.
1. MC - various groups have tech/digital solutions they are promoting
2. Strategy
a. Tech is an industry vertical
b. Building a stand alone D&A vertical
3. Internal
a. Lighthouse - custom support
b. KGS - offshore engagement support
c. SPI - Strategy Group on shore heavy analytics support
4. Tools - all the standard tools Alteryx, Tableau, ThinkCell etc, plus a lot of custom tools for data, research, the end to end sales cycle, and engagement support.
Idk about 2B from @k2.
I know MC has its own d&a group. We also have lighthouse. I don't see strategy also having one. Why? Lol no point
Yep, Strategy is working on D&A vertical, right now it’s a “capability”. The idea is that I becomes a way to sell D&A like we sell M&A or industry specific engagements. We’ll see how it goes.
Yep, Separate from SPI. SPI is internal.
P1. Are you a DC or KPMG P? Thank you ex-DC’s. Good feedback. Any investment in digital/tech?
Yeah digital enablement is a good group at KPMG and I was part of it
Yes, I’m part of digital enablement as well. I was part of the Automation practice at DC and got recruited by KPMG. Significant investments in this space which I currently benefit from. Stronger digital leadership team here IMO
Agreed with the above on less investment & training. Moved here from ACN. Big culture shock for me. Group I joined really only values home grown employees versus experienced hires. This wasn’t apparent in interviews and no red flags during the interview process on this.
@K2 Strategy is building a stand alone data & analytics vertical?
What is the MC d&a group?
Also K2 are you sure you aren't thinking of deal advisory and strategy analytics?
SPI was just rebranded.
KPMG’ers. Thank you for the candid feedback. I enjoy DC bit feel is time for a change
I'm in the same boat. Would SM transfer to Director? Any chance of MD? Or higher than D1? How about comp in M&A?
SM would likely transfer to director. MD is unlikely imo, but I don't know all that much ;)
Comp is probably comparable but I don't know where you are at comp wise or frankly where my peers are at.
Thanks D1
D1. Thank you as well
