Corporate juniors. What are you guys annualizing? I’ll probably finish somewhere between 1300-1400 billable hours.

WHERE ARE THESE UNDERUTILIZED JUNIORS. I need them.

likefunny

Associate 3 above with the 1650 billable hours…so up and down this year! The hours don’t tell the whole story. When y’all need me I’m staffed up billing a 200 hour month and when we’re normal I’m begging y’all to throw me a bone but you’re hoarding!

like

We can see junior hours at our firm. M&A juniors are averaging 1700-1900

like

Seems high this year

like

Finishing my second year, will finish with ~2,200 hours.

like

1300-1400 is low and you may want to think about whether your firm can sustain that or if they may start to consider their options. Many associates right now are still billing their typical hours. The firms that are struggling are those that overhired last year or have a lot of clients that are also laying people off. Not every firm fits into this category.

2400 gets you an above market bonus at my firm and our average billable are 1700-1800. It’s not about being slow it’s about being humane

Rising second year here annualizing 1650

Edit to add + 100 countable pro bono / biz dev hours = 1750 total

like

Same numbers here

1,000 😖

I’m at around 1550-1600 but I took 6 weeks of paternity leave where I still did some work but not even like 20hrs per week during that time. Would’ve made my hours otherwise. Still searching for a new job regardless though.

like

That’s low, but the most relevant consideration is how it compares within your firm to peers. I worked at a firm that was very slow to ramp up juniors and many people had hours like this without issue

like

2100 with pro bono and KM

Will finish around mid 1500's and in the 1600's if I count all chargeable hours (pro Bono etc.)! Work towards the end of Q3 and Q4 really dried up. Tech firm junior.

Tech firm first year, 2300 and tired 🥱

It’s hard to trust the partners/leadership when they want us to return to office as being better when we increase offshoring? Also, the pressure on billable hours when all that really matters is how much our fixed labor costs vs. how much we can bill (which is usually fixed fee or at least a range) and the fixed labor costs of offshoring is significantly cheaper so the hours don’t matter. Am I mistaken by this viewpoint?

Have any of you taken "low bono" clients while working at a firm? I want to take on a low bono client or two but not sure who would get the money. This is a contract opportunity through a non profit so I'm assuming a 1099 will be issued. The per hour rate is significantly less than my billable rate. I would (obviously) like the money but my real objective is just getting experience/networking since I recently moved to a new state and don't have clients of my own.
