TBH that's a soft offer, but not terrible. Spm salary range is like 120-220, very huge band. Hard to say depending on other factors. You will most likely be travelinga lot
20 YOE! You should be able to get 25-30k signing and at least 180k base. If you come from reputable / desirable former employers, you should be able to get 200k base. Additionally, a Specialist Master is equivalent to a Manager; with 20 years of experience you should be at the equivalent level as a Senior Manager which is a Specialist Leader. Talent is intentionally short changing you hoping you don’t know the levels, etc. (this is a common and unfortunate Deloitte practice). Negotiate back for the Specialist Leader and don’t buy their counter about quick promotion or needing to get accustomed to the “Deloitte way”. The specialist track is a technical competency track so the “Deloitte way” has little to no bearing on execution of work product.
Disagree. We are very intentional about the difference in SM/M when we hire and don’t “level down”. Sm is very difficult and if you don’t do well, it’s the first one to get cut.
If WLB is important to you, this may not be the move for you...
I wouldn’t accept that offer. That’s super low. 1st, don’t count on the bonus, it’s super variable. 2nd, 160k? There are SCs out of their MBAs at that salary. You should ask for 200k minimum salary. 3rd, if they can’t go up to 200 base, your sign on should be 25k minimum.
You’ll most likely have to travel 100% of the time unless you are based out of NYC or SF
Read that as 20 YO and thought damn I’m underpaid.
Idk, 95k as an Associate is pretty decent.
Yes, I was hoping that I will get a Senior Manager equivalent as I am at that level currently. Will try negotiating and see what the recruiter says. Will post the outcome.
Ok, they are not ready to give me the SM as apparently I need to learn the Deloitte way of doing things but they can bump the base to 170 with the same signon
G1 false. We still go to market as Deloitte Digital since it is a strong brand. It’s just not its own group anymore
Sounds very low. What is drawing you in?
Yeah I see what you are saying, the problem is with the Tier 2 city not much variety involved with project and pay. Full time roles with end clients have so much internal politics that getting into senior management is impossible
You can get the same or better in industry. Given your concerns of WLB and travel, I would suggest you not take this job. If you really want to go the consulting route, go with a smaller local player (Slalom, Pariveda, or AWS, Microsoft etc.)
Life at Deloitte is hard, and in my experience it was harder than life at Accenture. Don’t waste your prime years getting the Deloitte runaround for low pay!
Any insights about this possible move?
Is the offer reasonable though? Would I be able to negotiate more? Thinking if I should give it a shot for couple of years.
Yes, is it any different in terms of travel or comp?
What’s your speciality?
Deloitte and WLB are mutually exclusive for most.
Not as much, but can still be a lot. But I've also had long stretches of no travel
It’s not that bad, although you can ask for a bit more. Please be aware you will be facing an uphill battle, in terms of life style, travel, younger more agile folks if you haven’t done consulting. For the record I am a 44 SM, Digital, came in as a Mgr a few years ago and fought my way up
NTT Data - I don't think specialist masters (at least the ones I knew at D) travel very much. They are more responsible for being the SME and answering any best practices questions across all of the projects. They're not directly on the implementation teams and don't typically travel each week like them.
What do other offers look like? 170k doesn't sound terrible but you need to figure out your market rate
Nothing comparable yet however I do have a contract role that offers the same without the benefits and bonus but a daily commute of less than 20 miles
Isn’t specialist master equivalent to a manager?
Did you end up taking the offer?
