Do CDs normally respond to thank you emails or do the ones I interview with just not like me?

Thank you for the thank you? No.

likesmartfunny

I actually said these exact words once. I realized halfway through what was happening, but it was too late to stop it. The parking garage had never felt longer than it did that day.

likefunny

I’ve been hired on the strength of my thank you note and did not receive a reply. I didn’t want one, either, what’s there to say? Unless you asked a question, no reply is the norm.

like

HR departments ask hiring managers like CDs not to respond at all. They’re afraid the person they don’t hire may sue for being “lead to believe” they got the job. Seriously.

likehelpful

I’ve received replies every single time. Feels pretty intuitive to me.

If I tell a CD “Thank you for your time. It was great meeting you,” they could easily say “It was nice meeting you as well.” It also takes only 30 seconds to do.

like

like

I always do. What’s the harm in taking a minute to extend a common courtesy?

like

I’ve found that if I get a response, I usually don’t get an offer.

like

Depends on the thank you. Sometimes they’re fun to read and it’s clear that the person wants to work here and made an effort to further a personal connection with the thank you. I’ll respond to those. Other times it’s pretty dry and there’s nothing to reply back. I appreciate both kinds though. So a lack of response doesn’t mean much. And I do notice when one isn’t sent. So don’t let up, keep writing the thank yous. And maybe find something a bit more interesting to say if you want a response

helpful

It’s not about kissing the ring. It’s about giving me something to respond to if you really want a response. Otherwise you’re not getting one because I really don’t care to try and think of something original to say since “you’re welcome” is about all there is to say and that sounds pompous as hell.

Rarely

I typically get them after sending mine. I think I didn’t receive one once in this industry and still got the offer.

Hardly anyone in any department replies to thank you notes. The most I’ve ever gotten back from them is “great to meet you, we’ll be in touch” but even that’s rare

But, like, are they ever in touch? Do they mean it or is it politeness?

I got one recently thanking me for my time and saying that we'll stay in touch. It sent me spiraling. This was the second interview. The first CD never responded to my thank you note but told me during the interview that they were definitely setting me up with a second. So how do I take that response to my note? 🤔 It's been three days since I've received it.

I’ve always gotten a response to thank you emails

You are welcome

I almost never respond to Thank You’s. I also don’t pay any attention to whether someone sent one or not. It’s fine if you want to but it’s completely unnecessary. You don’t owe me a thank you. You gave me your time just the same as I gave you mine. Hiring is supposed to be a mutually beneficial arrangement, not some gift bestowed upon the interviewee. If I hire you it’s because I think it’ll be good for both of us, because I like your book and because of the quality of conversation in the interview. Not because you had the best email curtsy.

Cool. I’m prob older than you and would not hire anyone who didn’t send one.

like

Getting a thank you email makes a big difference IMO. It’s always nice to show the human side of us instead of just acting like a robot for the job. At the end of the day, working with people who mutually respect you keeps you happy. There are CDs here saying that it doesn’t matter, yet they say that they appreciate when they get it, or that they notice when they don’t get it. But they don’t have to reciprocate bc they’re in the hiring position? Then maybe you don’t appreciate people on your team. You just want them to do the work. That makes a big difference.

At last I asked the interviewer about feedback as in where was I wrong. He said at couple of places and he explained me where was I wrong.
