Do Lewis Brisbois partners get any perks/are actually equity? Or are they just partners in name? 35 associates were recently promoted to partner.

Partners in name with higher billable rates and no real perks

likehelpful

I don’t know anything about this firm in particular, but if they’ve a two-track partnership, or some hybrid version, like most, then partners in name. Now, the thing is, even “equity partners” are also equity in name only at large firms and the executive committee dictates what their “distributions” are. So even “equity partnership” can be illusory.

This is a bit off topic, but I see a lot of posts about Lewis Brisbois here. Is there a reason for that? Just curious.

Is anyone concerned the push for sexual equality in pay without accordant leveling of parental leave is gonna backfire?

Here’s a hypothetical:

A company has 2 candidates, aged 25-30, equal in every respect save one’s a man the other’s a woman. Maybe the woman is a slightly better candidate overall. They’d have equal comp.

Company considers the woman a riskier bet due to possibility she’ll take maternity leave — and considers the man less risky for his ineligibility to take as much leave. 🤷

I recently accepted a position with a new org. One of the benefits I asked about with offer was the parental leave policy and was told (in writing by HR) 16 weeks paid after 1 year, which is as good as you can hope for in US. Now I’ve been sent the employee handbook to review/sign and it says only 12 weeks, which is less than the org I’m leaving. What might my recourses be to negotiate 16 weeks when the time comes? Also, should I be viewing this is a red flag?

Well I recently told a guy I have been seeing I have HSV-2. We have not yet been physical but it’s been heading that direction. Man I hate this part - waiting to see what his response will be after he researches and talks to his doctor. I’m on daily meds which help reduce transmission risk. You’d think that since HSV-2 affects 20% of Americans and likely a higher % of gay men, there would be less taboo but it’s hardly ever talked about. Anyone else in my shoes? Or had it disclosed to them?
