Poetry sings to my heart, the the inhale and exhale of my literature experience!
Some poetry is awful, but great poetry (Oliver, Cummings, Baker, Angelou, Giovanni, Hughes…) AmAzInG!!!
I love teaching it.
Absolutely. How can one teach literature and not love poetry?
No! I hate it! Haha! I try not to show the kids my extreme disgust for it because I don't want to taint their opinions on it, but omg, it so hard! 😂
Love it. I’ve used short ones to analyze as warmups. Finding the right poems can be challenging for high school students, but if you do it’s magic.
I love poetry! When my kids were super little I would read poetry to them.
Poetry is in my soul!
I LOVE poetry. We do a two-week unit every April during standardized testing breaks. The kids always grumble when I tell them what’s going on, but the vast majority of them end up loving it by the end of the two weeks. We write eight poems and watch a bunch of slam poets for inspiration.
I wish that more if the slam poetry I enjoy was age-appropriate for my students.
I hope they remember the tremendous value of rating poetry on the Pritchard Scale! =)
