Plan it. My PTO is exclusively used for travel (my favorite thing to do).
I’m a planner too! I like to use a few PTO days throughout the year for small breaks, but I definitely keep a couple in my back pocket for emergencies or just when I really need to recharge. Having that flexibility feels important to me, especially with how unpredictable life can be!
I am pretty conservative with my PTO overall and plan on using it more often than not. My company allows me to roll over 40 hours year to year, so I always make sure to do that. This way I have cushion of PTO to use as things pop up.
I usually use my PTO at the end of year and basically get almost all of December off, but I agree that planning is the better way to go about it
I like to use them in conjunction with paid holidays. For example if a holiday is on Wednesday, I’m taking Thursday and Friday off. I also like banking some PTO because in my job we can carry over to next year. I don’t typically take long trips, so I spend my time away taking long weekends.
Generally use it in chunks around holidays
