Lol, their toilet paper is the worst I've ever used in my entire life, and you think they'd provide a gym? It is a zero-perks atmosphere. And when I say zero perks, I mean there's hardly even fridge space if you planned on bringing your own lunch. Literally zero perks.
Cafeteria is a pretty good value though they just jacked up up the prices a couple of weeks ago. To the previous commentator's point: the tissue paper is really hazardous. I wouldn't be surprised if there's some sort of class action down the road for folks suffering from hemorrhoids . It's that bad.
Every EY office I've been to has $.25 sodas from the vending machine. Must just be a West coast thing??
Yeah, right.
Back when EY first moved into that building, they were deciding what to do with the 22nd floor. They asked employees if they wanted gym or cafeteria and the response was cafeteria. That's why no gym.
When did we move in?
Is the cafeteria even decent?
No, the cafeteria is not very decent. And frankly the prices aren't very great if you ask me. They just raised them last month.
Not saying you are getting ripped off. Just commenting that I find it strange the same firm (EY) would subsidize Coke vending machine products in some offices, but not in others. In my office (and others in the West), cans of Coke products are about 50-60% of the cost of going to Costco and buying the bulk 35 can cases. Maybe it's just a West region thing and they like us better :). we are the region that pioneered the new jeans dress code policy that was finally rolled out nation wide
In my current office all sodas, snacks, coffee and Friday donuts are free. Wow nyc office sounds miserable. Do they still have team lunches?
Damn and you are micromanaged to that extent???!!
No gym. Cafeteria is good, but I seldom use it - cook myself.
Cafeteria seems good to me. Never thought about the toilet paper. vending machines seem reasonable. $1 sodas.
What about Hoboken - will that office have a gym?
At my previous firm all snacks, sodas, fruit, etc were free. Not sure how you can call a $1 soda fro.a vending machine a perk. I can get $1 sodas pretty much anywhere. The firm makes profit off us from those machines.
In NYC I don't think there is anyplace you can find soda cans at lower than $1.
Most newsstands are a dollar plus all McDonald's
Right so instead of taking a 5 minute elevator ride down to the ground floor and walking 2 blocks to the newsstand (which may be closed after 6pm), you spend the same $1 in the office.
Yes, but (1) I'm only proving the point that it's not like the firm is subsidizing our beverages as some kind of perk or benefit, and (2) I actually go to McDonald's to get there sodas anyway because it's nice to step away from the computer for a few minutes
we're not disagreeing. I said "vending machines seem reasonable. $1 sodas." Merely meant to convey that the company running the machines (which is always a 3rd party vendor) is not ripping us off vs what we'd pay elsewhere. Agree completely that there's no "perk/subsidy" from the Firm though. Just that it's a fair market price.
