Focus on other people like you, for instance Women Under 40 in High Tech. They are dealing with the same issues as you and would appreciate you not judging them for being young and brilliant, too. Others who say “age does not matter—it’s all in your mind” are naive not to believe that age and sex discrimination are rampant in corporate America. It’s there all right. But use it to target the right niche for your experience and appearance.

Male here. I have spent the past 15+ years at a private bank and a wirehouse, some of the most successful private bankers and advisors I know are women. In fact, the top three FAs at my current complex are women. My point is, women can definitely make it in this business and are often very successful.
Hello sister- I have the same challenges. You’re doing the right things. It takes time. I’m grinding day and night, some hits some misses- but when you do it the right way, you build an empire by each grain of sand.
Whenever you can find a solid advisor looking for a paraplanner, drop out of the PAMD and devote a few years to said advisor’s office. You’ll build rapport over time and that will parlay into other opportunities down the line.
(Women clients - not other people in my office)
Do business over the phone with no photo on linked in or website. That way prospects will assume you are old and unattractive and stop hitting on you. That is what works for me.
I already do that because I don’t want people to know when I graduated and I definitely don’t want them to know how little experience I have!
Male or female- it is tough to be taken seriously in the business if you are new. I dealt with the same issue and I didn't start until I was 34. If you are a CFP candidate I'm guessing you are under 3 years in? I feel like 5 years was a turning point and 10 years will be again. Is there an older FA you could bring in (only if you like them and can learn from them) on your meetings? That may help.
I am in a PAMD program and the sales goals are killer. When I reach out to prospects on LinkedIn all they do is ask me out or try to converse about non-business. It’s been like this for 2 years and I am so disappointed. Do I have to be an absolute b**** or only go after female clients!? What gives!???
Take down your picture! They must find you attractive. With no pic, they might assume you are ugly and focus on biz
Your age is only an issue in your own mind. There are reasons why your age comes to mind as you reflect. Your age, gender and/or looks do not affect your performance and success. Intelligence, empathy, experience and focus will drive your success.
I would recommend you focus on one market and work hard to establish your name in the business. There are many young female realtors out there in a rough and tumble industry. Use your age to your advantage. Being young means you aren’t jaded and you don’t have biases in your investing and planning outlooks.
Take your own perceived weakness and build it into your powerful strength. Never give up.
