For diet reasons, I don't drink alcohol. But I drink sodas occasionally. Like at company happy hours, etc. From a health perspective, is this kind of hypocritical? I think they are both nutritionally near 0 value. I do enjoy the taste of soda more than alcohol. But I can't help but feel like if I'm willing to drink sodas, a beer or two a week shouldn't be much different. If anything, it's lower calorie per can lol.

It’s not hypocritical! One is also much much safer to drink while pregnant or on certain medications. Obviously doesn’t apply to most people, but I think that indicates that alcohol definitely does have some worse impact on the body. You can also drive without issue after any amount of soda.
People are definitely addicted to sugary drinks, but a couple a week is definitely not addiction.
And if you enjoy soda over alcohol, it’s justifiable. The lower calories in alcohol don’t mean much if you dislike the taste and are craving a soda instead.
Lol I’m the same way and for my sake I don’t think it’s hypocritical 🤣

I don’t think it’s hypocritical. You know soda is bad for you, but you’re allowed to enjoy some bad stuff every once in a while and it doesn’t sound like you’re having it with any sort of frequency. There are way worse things you could be doing. I will say that the dietitian I saw was absolutely against any amount of “liquid sugar” but had no issue with me having a glass of whiskey throughout the week since whiskey doesn’t really spike your blood sugar the same way.
I don’t think it is hypocritical, but neither one is much healthier than the other. Since it seems this question is regarding consuming in moderation, choose which one you’d prefer at that moment.
Haha i also dont drink alc for health reasons and think its fun to experiment with mocktails when I’m at a bar or something and everyone is drinking
Is it diet soda or full sugar? Either way Soda can make you insulin resistant, which makes weight control and weight loss harder. Once in a while I drink a Diet Coke, it’s fine.
You should try club soda with muddled mint and lime next time you’re out, it’s so refreshing and looks like vodka soda. Beer is high carbs, a lot of sugar, read the book “Wheat Belly”. But a beer once in a while is fine, just don’t have 5+ in one sitting.
Reducing alcohol consumption is key to health. It causes so many illnesses in our body, that you wont realize for decades. My friend is a GI doctor, she said keep it to 2 drinks a week max

SC 2, I don’t think there was much evidence supporting insulin resistance. I know a couple diabetics who can drink diet soda with zero issue or impact on blood sugar. I once asked about the claim that diet is actually worse for you, and they said their docs had told them diet is completely fine.
If you can’t pick, take both!
I pick the flavoured san pelligrino water or similar when it’s an option. Personally not a fan of refined sugar
