Former consultant who moved to Industry here.

I have a much older coworker (peer), who is downright nasty to the consultants in my area. I absolutely hate the way he talks down to them.

As coworkers he is fantastic with me and has worked with and is family friends with my boss for over 20 years and I know for a fact nothing will come out of a convo with either of them.

He is an amazing guy personally. This is just his work style. How do I help him become less confrontational with the team?

This is a situation where it’s most powerful if you address in the moment.

Like, if you’re in a meeting and he starts berating someone, I would say right then and there:

”Frank, that’s not fair. Joe consultant, thanks for the work on your deliverable but it sounds like we need to align internally on expectations before we can sign off.”

He’ll listen to you if you have this strong relationship, and being put in his place publicly but respectfully may lead him to rethink how he’s coming off.

My company cut staff to 4 days/wk to save funds. I was getting requests from coworkers for docs needed urgently on our day off (fridays). I would oblige them. But then, I learned that those same coworkers had been put back to 5 days because they were deemed “essential“. I felt foolish and decided to stop working on fridays. One EVP (not the GC) in particular has been aggressively texting/calling me on fridays. How Do I tactfully respond? My out-of-office email is not enough of a hint...

My company’s SOP template has a table of contents and a section at the top where the SOP owner is supposed to add a short statement containing the “Why” of the SOP, meaning a statement about what the SOP is supposed to solve for/ accomplish. A co-worker recently told me that it should also contain a checklist of the 4-5 main points of what the team member should know how to do after reading the SOP…. This seems really redundant to me. Thoughts?

Additional Posts in Consulting

Alright fish, so I'm from a non-target school for consulting, for reference my school typically sends a couple to the Big 4 federal practices and FDD but definitely no MBB front office. Is there any way in hell I can break into some type of non-strategy role at a Big 4 firm with a B4 audit background and industry experience?
Like I'm trying to get a feel for if it's a waste of time for me to be applying. I've been hitting finance transformation advisory roles pretty hard with out much luck.
