Why are you telling us? Apologize and make it right
Sure, context matters. Valid misalignment of expectations happens a lot. But I also don’t think that receiving “knife hand energy” is mistranslating international cultures. That’s the misapplication of military culture in a different setting. You probably shouldn’t be hitting your domestic colleagues with “knife hand energy” either.
Why are you “knife handing” anyone? You’re not in the military any more, being direct is one thing but what I think of when I hear that term is absolutely not appropriate for a corporate workplace.
Ahhh..... I definitely had the wrong idea
Oorah
I have worked extensively with colleagues in India for about the last 4 years. My impression is that our corporate culture and approach is actually quite a bit more restrained, “nice”, and less confrontational than they are accustomed. I don’t know your situation but what you may consider aggressive and forward is likely viewed as normal to them.
Again, this is anecdotal and lacking context but may be a reasonable point of reference as you engage and work through you current situation.
