What’s a good out from RA? Thinking about moving away from audit/accounting

Anyone here broken into real estate private equity from big 4 consulting? What steps did you take to jump into RE PE? What gaps in knowledge did you have and how did you fill them? Outside of the knowledge gaps what other things do you think you needed in order to get into RE PE?

I’ve been at a job for a few months and hate it - partners set unrealistic deadlines, micromanage, and create work that truly is not necessary/push urgency when there is no real urgency. I had other offers prior to accepting this job that may still be options, and going back to my old job (for a pay cut) might also be an option. I can’t tell if this is just burnout, growing pains, or just an untenable work environment. Would you ride it out for a year at new job or pursue other options? HELP!

A relative is raising a teenage son with her ex-husband. They have joint physical custody. The ex-husband has re-married. When the son is in his care, he often leaves the son at home in California with his (new) wife when he travels for work (which is often). The relative wants her ex-husband to leave their son in her care when he travels out of town but the ex-husband disagrees. Working on a divorce where the father is claiming that he is unemployed because of the previous administration’s actions with DACA (he was brought to the States as a child). I know that the memo rescinding DACA was ultimately vacated—but OC is unsure whether this would count as voluntary unemployment for child support purposes. I believe it does as the application period to renew DACA benefits was reopened in 2020. Thoughts?

I’m a second year associate at a small, but reputable firm. My caseload is almost entirely made up of clients who were referred to one of the partners but the partners are too busy so I end up taking the case. The clients are told up front that an associate, rather than a partner will be taking his/her case. I’ve run into an issue a couple of times where the client doubts my advice because I am only 2 years in. Has anyone else experienced this? How do I address the fact that I’m only 2 years in?

What’s a good starting salary for a newer attorney? I’ve never worked anywhere but in the public sector (even before becoming an attorney). I currently clerk for a judge and now am up to $44k as of July 1. I’m in KY. I’ve recently had a couple attorneys reach out to me about joining their practice. What are your client follow-up/communication policies or practices? I’m hearing more and more that clients don’t like the long periods of time with little to no contact. From my perspective, since I bill for my time, unless I have an update or need something, I don’t initiate a call. Also, clients hold on to important info and don’t initiate a call cause they’re waiting for me to communicate with them.

Solos - how did you know when you were ready to hire a FT attorney?

Small firm (my boss, me, & a paralegal). After a hearing I did not handle, boss intended to seek review of the ruling in its entirety. What was communicated to me by paralegal was to seek review of a portion.

Seeking review is now time-barred. Boss is not upset, but this is 1 case & 1 problem. There are other cases & other stories.
