I think you might be confusing terms. Typically a white hat hacker is working on their own and breaking into systems in good faith. This is still illegal unless they are working on bug bounties.
Someone working for a company doing penetration testing (pen testing) would typically be working on a red team. Those positions exist all over the place with hundreds or even thousands of people doing them.
Thank you for your reply. Yeah I could be confusing it- I've always been interested in cyber security and just wondered if there was a way to learn to get into it.
The field of security is pretty broad, so you might want to research what you want to do specifically. There are plenty of resources to help get you started online. You can take a look at Coursera, they have general security courses. You can also take a look at getting certificates in the field through CompTIA, EC Council, SANS, etc.
Tryhackme has some good paths for beginners and even has tracks for those that want to get into pentesting.
