Marketplace insurance options aren't great. The cheap plans often tie your hands in one way or another for care. The options comparable to what an employer provides cost a lot more. Cheap isn't always better ..even if you are healthy... A marketplace plan with an ER visit can be expensive.
Before I got my full time job, I was a contractor and was able to get government funded insurance for the self employed. They paid majority of it and I only paid $15/month.
Where did you start with applying for it?
I think individual marketplace plans are local only, not nationwide, and not cheap. If you are healthy, there is now a nonprofit plan that is better than insurance and saves 30%-70% on healthcare costs. DM me, if you want information about it. You can get it as an individual (any time - no open enrollment period), but you can also ask your employer to offer it as an alternative to their insurance offering(s). If they pay part of the cost, it will be even less expensive for you and your employer will save money on any employee who chooses this plan over insurance.
