How much are you contributing towards retirement? If you really want more money now, I’d contribution the minimum amount to get your employer match and then you can use whatever money you have left for your needs or invest it yourself. That way it’s your decision every month. Some months may be tight and you can’t invest as much and some months may be better and you can. I know retirement is important but I’ve had older people tell me to live life while I have my youth and health and the money will come later vs them having money but can’t do anything bc they’re older, have kids, can’t move as well or leave the states because of health. Plus for many, retirement never comes due to terminal illness or an accident. You’ll never get your youth back but you will likely make more money later.
Are you using credit cards? I use my debit card 95% of the time now, and I spend far less than I was. My first couple years out of college, I was constantly paying a credit card bill.
Also, are you budgeting? You might need to reduce contributions to your savings and brokerage accounts for a little while so you have enough wiggle room.
Yes I am using my credit card. I think I may put it away for awhile. No to a true budget.

Maybe you are saving too much.
Maybe it’s your rent or mortgage? I’d look to get a place outside of the city and commute in if it’s a tolerable commute and the rent is considerably cheaper. At your age, $90k is pretty good and it sounds like you’re still saving money in different investment vehicles. I feel your pain, My wife and I went thru similar struggles in our early 20’s because our student loans were taking a significant portion of our income to the point where we moved in with family for 2 years to pay it down until we could afford our own place. I also got major increases in pay at work so that definitely helped. I can say without a doubt that it will get better, you just have to be patient (which is not my strong suit! 😂) and try not to get flustered. Hope you find a solution!
Thank you for this! This helps.
This sounds like a budgeting issue. $90k is a pretty healthy salary, so there's a chance there are probably a few money leaks in your budget, like eating out too much or splurging on luxuries too often. I'm not saying not to do those things, but maybe cut back a little.
If you don't pay attention to your actual expenses, you'll have too much month left at the end of your money
Google YNAB.
Make sure you’re investing in your employer’s retirement plan, then set up a direct deposit to an IRA and an account you use for savings. Make do with what’s left over.
It’s worked for me and I’m still able to enjoy a good quality of life in a HCOL area.
