Maybe an unpopular opinion, I'm not sure, but I don't really think leadership courses are going to help you move into a leadership role. What hiring managers want to see is real work experience, so I"d work on trying to take on some additional responsibilities in your current role. Maybe you can initiate an internship program and be the head of that? Maybe you can start leading some meetings? Talk to your manager about what extra responsibilities they could give you so you can build your experience
thanks for commenting! I've been taking on lead roles on a couple of initiatives so hopefully will add to real work experience. Certainly wonder what else is missing...
I was given an opportunity to sign up for personal coaching and these courses popped up as I searched for both options. Personally I have doubts on these courses and I don't feel a 5 day course will prove my experience or potentials in a leadership role, although the networking and theoretical aspects can be beneficial. The courses are expensive so been weighing options. Personal coaching sounds like the route to gather more focused discussion and feedback?
Recommend you start internally to:
1. Work with your manager on a development plan and what you need to learn/do/seek out to achieve the position you want and how they can support you with this (intros to mentors, feedback, work opps etc.)
2. Seek out internal mentors. Who do you work with that you admire? Who has travelled a similar path to the one you are seeking? Ask them for a coffee (in person/virtual) for advice, test the waters for if they would be willing to mentor you (depending on how well you know them and your prefs)
3. Ask HR/ L&D team for formal mentorship programs and what is available for self-study and to enroll in available training/dev programs
INSEAD and LBS are excellent schools though would prioritise the above first
