Help! Got an offer of 90 K plus a $5000 sign on bonus for a private tech company. Recruiter said $90k is the absolute max they will go, hence adding on the sign on bonus. Can I negotiate?? I’m worried about ruining it if I ask for $93k, and prob not much difference on a paycheck. They are headquartered in San Francisco. I’m based in Nashville which is crazy expensive now.

Staying in Nashville. That does sound like a good counter offer with the gross the sigh on. I’ve never negotiated! But if I don’t, it’s very close to a lateral move. But, big picture, I’d be happier.

like

Always negotiate! Otherwise you end up resentful and looking for a new job quickly after taking the new one which isn’t a good look on a resume.

like

Always counter the first offer. They can only repeat that their original is highest and best. They won't suddenly get offended that you tried to advocate for yourself and pull the offer. If they did, they might not be the kind of people you want to enter a working relationship with anyway.

like

The recruiter said originally he’d try to get me $95. So, a bit surprised they came in at their lowest of $90k. I thought at least $92 or $93.

I would ask about what the yearly increase is. If it’s 4% or more, I would just leave it

like

Ask that they gross up the sign-on bonus so you get the 5k and google the cross comparison of
SF vs. Nashville living expenses differentials.

like

Are they asking you to relocate? If not, I would take it and heed the advice that they gross them sign on bonus up so you get the full amount and not the amount after taxes

like

Just to discuss numbers, that would equate to about $115 difference per check if you are paid every other week, before taxes. Not terribly significant, but I couldn’t imagine that negotiating will have a negative affect. Is this your first negotiation request, or are you countering?

Yes I definitely agree with Cohen then, the worst thing they could tell you is that the original offer still stands. Companies expect you to negotiate. Ask for what your worth!

I would take it and ask for a performance eval in 60-90 days. That's a good offer.

$90K for Nashville is crazy. Take it!

Hello Folks,
Can you pls advise on which company to go for.
R-Systems : They are providing WFH + clarity on the project and team for which I’ll be working upon.
CTS : No clarity as of now, only thing I am aware is that I’m a part of full stack community.
HCL : Some clarity on the project but less package than other two.
R-Systems and CTS are giving same CTC.

What should be ctc for a data engineer with 5 years experience in hpe.

Hi everybody.
Right now I’m working as a junior product engineer in Amsterdam. From januari on I’ll be a medior product engineer. And now I’m in the middle of negotiating about my salary increase. The salary that I’m being offered feels low (41.5k).
Is there an other product engineer that could tell me if my gut feeling is right or not? Thanks in advance!

Is this legal? My spouses company just decided to change their comp structure for account managers. It was base + comm, now it’s commission only but nothing changed, OT commission is the same, didn’t get more points, just took away the base pay and said work harder basically. So now they have to worker harder to get $50k they were already making. (Not a decision based on employee performance, they’ve been crushing it. I think the company is just trying to save money they overspent else where)
