I like this. Update for the 2021 amounts and insert HSA if you’re on high deductible plan
This is great thank you
You are young so market risk is not an issue. The market will always outperform everything else over time. And time is on your side at your age. I would suggest good mutual funds to spread your risk. They aren’t sexy, but over time, they perform quite well. Set up a monthly transfer to brokerage and forget about it. Then watch it grow over time. There will be bad years like 2018 and there will be great years like 2019 and even 2020. It will level out to around 8% over the long haul with very little real risk. The only losers in the market are the people who sell during a bad year. The market always comes back. If it doesn’t, we have much bigger problems.
Is there any difference between a mutual fund and buying SPY , VOO, etc ?
My question is: Is it too risky to put that much money in the Stock Market? About 72% of my Cash is in stocks. I know the saying is "don't invest it if you cannot lose it" but then again, I don't want my money sitting in a bank and not doing anything. I am the sole income of my family which is just me and my parents right now.
My on hand savings +emergency fund is about $26k, should I sell stocks to beef this up and have more cash on hand? I am looking to get married in the next year with goal expense of $25k, plan to just sell a little stock and also add to savings to have that by then.
Any advice or recommendations is much appreciated!
More money in ETFs, spy and the like the mitigate risk. Stocks don’t always go up, the market always goes up. Best to use a basket approach to hedge your bets
What ETFs would you recommend if I asked for your top 3? I’m in SPY only currently.
I recommend the personal investment chatter bowl
Will check it out
