I don't understand anyone who thinks that companies are entitled to MORE than what they hired us for. Listen, we work to live, not the other way around. And people who live for work are prone to burnout and all sorts of health/lifestyle problems. Their spouses leave them, they have chronic stress, etc. We should all be entitled to live full lives with work just being one part of those lives

The way she expressed that makes a lot of sense. There's no point in burning yourself out going beyond what's actually your job. As long as you're doing what you're paid to do, that's fine. Turning your life inside out when you didn't really sign up for that is crazy.

I don’t have a problem with people just sticking to their job and doing it well and not wanting to commit more than necessary. I also encourage and champion those who want more than just their current job. However, those that just want to come in and do their job should not expect significant raises, bonuses or promotions. You don’t have to be a slave to your job; everyone, regardless of career path should be free to find the work life balance that works for them wherever they choose to work. But don’t come whining when the person who takes on extra responsibilities or sought a promotion gets a big raise or bonus and you didn’t.

People like Manager 1 are the reason why employees do not find a conducive environment, get burn out and are afraid to speak out! They eventually move out of the organization.

As they say, people join companies but leave managers.

Some people are rock stars, others are shooting stars.

Rock stars are the folks you can 100% rely on to get their job done. They are solid, dependable, and generally the folks who keep the wheels on for the organization.

Shooting starts are the people who push. The change drivers. The ones who are hungry for more. More responsibility, more authority, more ability to influence.

A successful organization needs both types of stars to sustain success. They reward both types because they understand the importance of having them and the value both bring.

The lady writing the article sounds like she falls in the rock star category. I’d be happy to have her.

My boss (atty) is so disorganized! I’ve been with him 6 months and he’s having a hard time delegating, sharing info and managing deadlines. I’ve organized the caseload to manage the deadlines. He says he wants me to help with discovery but when I offer to start on one, he says he needs to do it. (Since he might have to present as evidence) When I give him deadlines and ask for the docs he says he’ll get to it. It’s a small 1 man firm, and I’m the first assistant besides his wife. Any advice?

Need some advice. During May of 2021 an operations manager and an hourly Hr employee started a relationship while the ops manager was married. We had supervisors give us pictures of those two kissing at workFast forward they are now engaged and getting married. The HR worker does not work here anymore since July 2021. Is it too late to investigate the ops manager for misconduct ? The ops manager has worked here for 15 years and is super valuable, the operation literally can not run without him.

There’s no reason you have to put up with a job you hate. I spent many years working in a toxic environment with a boss who gossiped and lead through fear. He wasn’t really much of a leader but basically a foreman. And he could make my existence miserable. I admit that it wasn’t easy to find another job but the bottom line is: trust your guts. If you feel something is wrong it’s because it probably is. Don’t second guess yourself. Look for options and and fight for your mental health.
