How do you celebrate diversity in the workplace without risk of someone feeling singled out because of said diversity? What happens when well-intentioned inclusion results in unintended seclusion? Seems prevalent in smaller offices, but if you relate please share your story!

Treat everyone with the same respect and worth as you would want to be treated. Stop looking at people's skin color or making a big deal about it one way or the other. We are all God's children and He does not discriminate based on skin color, so we shouldn't either.

DEI is not exclusive to race.

I think it's a little bit inevitable with small, relatively undiverse teams. I think you can make efforts to be inclusive, but it should be natural and organic to not make anyone feel "pandered to" or condescended. A good way of doing this is celebrating all forms of diversity, not just race, religion, disability, etc.

I’ve got a friend who was worried about this when she came out as trans lol. Like not worried about workplace toxicity but the company president (small company) sending a company wide email with her new name or something.

Is this legal? My spouses company just decided to change their comp structure for account managers. It was base + comm, now it’s commission only but nothing changed, OT commission is the same, didn’t get more points, just took away the base pay and said work harder basically. So now they have to worker harder to get $50k they were already making. (Not a decision based on employee performance, they’ve been crushing it. I think the company is just trying to save money they overspent else where)

What’s the smallest space you can get by with for a pretty basic woodworking setup?

Last week team dynamics took a turn for the worst (even tho in each retro the team always commend each other, you would think team work is great). Team members get agitated with each other for being slow. I am being tapped to translate documents at work. I’ve done spot translation audits, and 1 larger Quality assurance document earlier this year, but was recently contacted about a potential large-scale translation initiative for next year.

Has anyone been compensated for these sorts of projects that would be “out of scope” for their role? How do you go about asking for compensation? Have any of you spun out and created translation service side-gigs?

In honor of National Voter Registration Day, The New Yorker released the transcript of a previously unpublished interview with James Baldwin, who gave a first-hand account of "Freedom Day 1963," a Black voter-registration drive in Selma, Alabama. Baldwin's descriptions from that day are so vivid and detailed that you can feel the fear and anger of the event. If you have a couple of minutes, I highly recommend you read it.

My company is in need of a update online, could use your opinions! We need to better showcase our culture (caring, supportive, fun, intelligent IT industry leaders) as well as diversity. We are predominantly white still but making strides to improve here. What’s the best way to approach? I don’t want to seem disingenuous or that we are singling out our diverse employees (asking for photos). We have a remote and on-site workforce about 350+ EEs. Non white EEs make up about 35% of the company rn.

Working at a company and they can’t seem to hold on to their female, black and people of color employees. I blinked and 3 of the people who were in my onboarding class were either fired or they left. My boss makes jokes about me being from a different country whenever there is a work meeting or a gathering with coworkers, even though he knows where I am from. This usually occurs when I meet new work-related people or for example if I am in a situation that involves ethnic related subjects.
