Teach them! Listen & help them problem solve. Build the team by teaching them while keeping the mindset of what does my management and stakeholders need. It is very important to have this perspective and a positive attitude to enable growth and momentum. Momentum is our greatest asset! How you approach the issues with your employees is critical. Working hard but underperforming is a hell of a lot easier to fix than attitude-driven poor performance.
If I was the manager, I would put together a tailored training plan with deadlines, and work closely with this individual so that they are successful. Kind of like a PIP, except with the results being achievable and by supporting the employee through it.
If they are just in the wrong position, then open conversation about other roles that align more strongly with their skillset. And help the employee make the transition. A good manager helps hard workers to be successful, even if it’s elsewhere in the organization.
