Deloitte experienced hires, who all received written offers and in process of visa/ onboarding, have you heard back anything about hiring freeze? Or recruiter asked you to delay joining date?
My visa got submitted couple of days back and waiting for decision. When I reached out to recruiter to give her an update and mentioned once there’s decision will discuss on the start date before putting my 2 weeks, she mentioned “Yes, we should talk before you put notice” - Am I overthinking? In your next conversation you can joke around and throw in there something like “well you know … in a perfect world I’d be working with you” or something related to the conversation…”lol just kidding… or am I .?? Hahah”. You can essentially business flirt with them.
Extend the analogy and offer to work for them as a consultant their regular employees don’t know about… until the time is right.
“Wouldn’t it be crazy if we worked together directly, for the same company?!”
Nailed it.
If you have a good and trusting relationship with your client, I would set up a 1:1 with her and discuss the opportunity. Have confidence in your skills, tell her why you fit the role and that you want to join her team. If she wants to move forward, I would tell her to keep this confident, as you would like to tell your boss yourself when the time comes. If your boss is a good manager they will support and be happy for you.
Just a heads up.. at some places, if the client want to poach an agency person they actually have to let the agency know (so to not hurt agency relationships I guess?)
My previous AM had to have that awkward conversation with my boss, and she got the job on client's side.
Although, I have another friend which had that conversation with his boss but didn't end up getting the client side job🤦🏻♀️. He's still at the same agency now and luckily there was no hard feelings.
Just be aware there's a possibility that these things could happen!
Good luck!
Ask the client if they’d be interested in a 6-month or 1-year embed, meaning you’re essentially one of them. Agencies usually go for this when the client asks for it.
Gives you the opportunity to work with your client while getting a first-hand look at the organization’s culture. While your client may be great, be careful as the grass isn’t always greener. And since the embed would be time-bound, it gives you an out should you want/need it. 😉
8/10 of these situations ends with the client hiring from the agency. If it’s in a written agreement - no harm, no foul. 🤷♂️
Great question… following
I was poached at my last agency. I convinced the client to have me embedded on the team as a contractor and then just converted.
Sounds like you have a good relationship with them… why not just ask them to grab coffee and tell them you’re interested in the position? If they actually want to hire you it’s in their best interest to keep it confidential and help you get your foot in the door. Don’t overthink it.
be discreet.... no public forums when you drop that joke
I think you have a perfect opportunity to be very forthcoming and let them know that you would be interested in learning more about the position. If you already have a good relationship it sounds like you might be a leg ahead of anyone else
Just quietly apply for a job with the client
If he’s interested in adding you to his team you’ll know. Drop a hint, see if he shows interest. I was approached by a client about coming to work for his agency and I’ve been there 13 years.
I’d just say, if you are ever hiring I’m down for an upgrade! I’ve always enjoyed working with you and would love to work for you!
Can you just apply for the position? Not on work hours of course, but I don't see anything wrong with that.
Good point - I guess I just thought it might be weird if my resume popped up on her desk without a single word from me but I’m about one “can we shift the supers 15px to the left” comment (from a diff client) away from doing it 🙃
same question but for vendors 😳
Thanks everyone! Super helpful!
