I wanted to work for a company that treats people well, promotes internally, and is known for their integrity.
I just spoke to a recruiter that specializes in people coming out of public in my city. He helped me match up with companies that wanted someone with 5 years' experience in audit, CPA, no SEC experience, and my target compensation and the hours I was willing to work. I had interviews with real estate companies, investment companies, and health care companies. I liked one of them. I took a senior accountant role making 25% more base salary and working 30% less time. No regrets. Two years later I have ample choices to move into accounting manager and Assistant controller roles. I haven't been bored more than 4 or 5 days in a couple of years. There's always work to do, and some of it is repetitive but most of it isn't.
How exactly did you find a recruiter ?
I have been feeling the same way. Firms make it difficult it seems to transfer internally to other lines of services (audit to advisory). I have been trying to reach out to different people in different offices but few I have been getting the runaround, yet admittedly scared to leave the firm for something different.
