Threads like this always remind me how privileged we are. Many (most?) people will never break $100k and in this industry it happens at 30 y/o. We work hard for sure, but we also get laid pretty well
Do whatever the max is, no matter how much of a struggle it is. I’m 61, have always maxed my 401k, and now I have almost 2 million in there for the day when they finally boot me out of the industry
$5-700 cash, max out 401k. 33 at $150k. This thread is quite depressing.
Laid and paid.
29, $130k, $900/month 401k, $2K/month personal savings toward buying a shoe box apartment in New York one day. Dreams 🙌🏼
28 years old / $85k / 8% 401k contribution plus an annual IRA contribution
$900/month for company match and $5500/yr for my Roth IRA. Can't swing more than that right now since my wife is in grad school. 28, $120k
8% a year, 26, 80k
Lol. Whoops
22 yrs old, 65k salary, I save around $1000-1500 a month
How are y’all able to save this much????
Maxing our is referring to $18.5k, not only stopping at the match
I want to say fluid, so use Marcus, higher interest than the bank
Yes - I went from cents interest to hundreds per month. There are obviously higher yields for CDs or investments, but if you are saving for something in the near future like I am it’s great
$2100, 34, $190k
That’s 401k, IRAs and stocks combined.
$4k cash, max out 401k annually, but that’s combined between two salaries. 36, $195k, but HHI is $360k
$1500 in 401k, close to maxing 401k / 75k / 28
$135K, $2600 a month, 32
@FCB1, I legit hide it from myself. 401k seduction is automatic and then the extra savings goes through my financial advisor. I set up direct deposit for those other contributions to go directly into another account (ie not checking) and so it’s like I never had the money. Forces me to live much more reasonably than I would and makes me more purposeful about what I buy instead of being on the Amazon hamster wheel with no governor. I don’t know another way to do it.
Also, I don’t have kids so that really helps.
CD3: That’s what I thought too, so I didn’t do it. Now, 9 years later (and still in the US) I regret it big time. I would have had $100k saved up by now and it’s the stupidest financial mistake I’ve done. Just do it. You never know what will happen in the future. Even if you move the money is yours.
