I am 23. Currently max out my 401k + contribute to emergency fund.

Have a buddy who is a financial advisor and suggests I should not max my 401k, but only put in enough to receive the match, then put the rest in a traditional IRA and Roth IRA to benefit from tax purposes.

In my mind, I am benefitting from the current realized tax benefit of maxing out my 401k and the balance will compound significant in however many years despite paying taxes in the future.

What are your thoughts?

Later that week they told me that they were going to be making an offer. Another week has gone by and still no offer. They said they are still working on it. Is this the new norm for recruiting? I have a LOT of credit card debt. It has just grown over time and I can’t find my way out. I’m considering debt consolidation, specifically a company called National Debt Relief which seems legit but I’m just so hesitant because I’m scared to make my situation worse. I’ve always been a big saver minimum 15% to maxing out my 401k since I graduated college. I’m married to someone who thinks 6% is enough and likes $$$ cars. Other than the cars, they dont really spend money. For the married 🐠, how do you have the conversation with them that what they are doing isn’t enough?
