IA is great if you’re more of a work to live than a live to work type of person. another year or two in public probably would make you more attractive on the job market, but it’s never too early to look around and see if you can get a nice offer.
IA can be a great life for certain people. Actual WLB, great pay (at first, it tops out pretty fast), and generally less stressful that public. I’d say go for it if that sounds like you
I’d say 150-160 is the top for most. Mind you usually only public companies have an IA shop, and even then only the biggest of public companies have the kind of org depth for you to move up in IA. The higher you go up in IA, the smaller your pool of potential employers become
Do it! What's the worst that's going to happen? Literally nothing, BIG4 will hire you again in an instant if you don't like IA and you can basically get a job anywhere. Only thing you're missing out on are earlier promotions, but honestly you can keep a similar promotion schedule if you're willing to move around.
Personally I hope for more. When I leave PwC I’m hoping for a better position than an internal audit job. But that’s just me
High end consulting. Controller. VP of Finance. Hedge Fund analyst are all things I’ve seen that seem worth it. I mean I guess some of those are switching career but those companies specifically recruit Big4 CPAs. Also..a lot of people want to switch career from auditing.
