I am technically on the market but dragging my heels because all the jobs I want are in NYC. While I
love the city, I have noticed my memory becomes terrible when I live there. I imagine it’s from overstimulation. Plus, the noise can also make it difficult to sleep. I am not medicated.

For those of you who live in busy, noisy cities and work demanding hours looking at screens, how do you manage?

This is such a good question, and something I think that most people don't consider. It's like we forget that our environments are triggers for our symptoms, at least I forget that sometimes. I lived in NYC for a long time, and could never regulate my nervous system. So I moved back to my hometown and things got much better. I'm not sure it would have ever been possible to regulate in the city, but if I *had* to I would invest more in yoga and meditation, and trying to find a quieter neighborhood/a little more space to feel calm indoors.

Thanks, will try to build up patience for meditation as a first step.

I've lived in the city for 20 years, also unmedicated and only recently diagnosed. I definitely have ups and downs, but a few things that I'd recommend:

- live in an outer borough. You can still live and work in New York while sleeping somewhere quiet, where the sidewalks aren't packed. Look at Queens and South/ Southeast Brooklyn.

- don't compromise on your exercise. I alternate every few months between running, going to the gym, and 1:1 boxing sessions to keep engaged. I notice when I keep up with it, my bandwidth does incomparably better.

- find the quiet hideaways to decompress. If I need to be in an office, I take a walk to a green square at lunch hour. If I'm remote, I bounce between libraries and hole in the wall cafes.

Ultimately I make a lot of compromises to minimize screen time, and prioritize health, to make it manageable, but having a quiet home base to come back to is essential.

Thank you, I like this. I have just started carving out time to sleep longer and am also finding this makes me calmer. Don’t always have this luxury though.

I absolutely love NY but I could never live there because of this exact same reason. Its so busy and hustle bustle all the time that when I visit I tend to get overstimulated easily. Overstimulation is one of the things that I really hate about having ADHD.

Doesn’t seem I have a choice, as all the firms I am interested in are in office in NYC.. My psychologist wouldn’t give me an ADHD diagnosis because I am high functioning so I can’t even ask for accommodations like remote work.

How are the gyms at the new office? I heard that there will be two gyms (one for Deloitte only and the other for all building tenants).

I'm a powerlifter and deciding if I need a gym membership or if the office gym would suffice!

Hey folks - I have an inquiry on my credit for a gym membership I “failed to cancel”. I had previously left this gym as it closed during pandemic, and shifted to a new location. In doing so, I informed the gym I would be leaving. However, I recently checked my credit and saw that my membership had not been cancelled and had been sent to collections (prompting an inquiry and dropping my score).

Has anyone experienced this, and is aware of next steps to take here?

Additional Posts in ADHD Consultants

I recently got diagnosed with ADHD. I'm 31 and found this only because b school and post mba consulting job was/is much more challenging than anything I did before. What I'm confused about is that even as a teenager I could read entire books overnight. But the last two years of high school I started selectively zoning out and the problem has become worse since. I just realised it now. My doctor has suggested treating depression (I was also unaware of this) with Wellbutrin first (contd)
