I hired someone to do it for me. Problem solved. No more guilt
Look at Moneybags here.
At least you appear sexy. That’s more than I’ve ever been able to say.
Is the pile of clothes dirty, freshly washed (and havent folded it) or is it that midway point where you’ve used it already but could use it again before you wash it?
If it’s dirty: Put it in the hamper as soon as you take it off. If you don’t have a hamper, buy one.
If it’s laundry you haven’t folded: what has worked for me is to not wait a single second after it comes out of the dryer. I know if I take a 5 minute break after it comes outnof the dryer then that pile will stay there for a month.
The dread comes from the fact that you think it will take forever to deal with but once you do it you realize that it takes far less time.
When you come home and see a wreck that gives you that shame drop, train yourself to then set a timer to clean for 10 min or do 1 specific task
I second the timer idea. Amazing what you can accomplish in ten minutes. I also find once I start i often keep going even if the timer goes off. And if I am over it after ten minutes I don't have to feel guilty because I still progressed.
I have ADHD and a high stress job, and I 100% relate to this
When you do get stuff organized, does it make you feel good? If it does pause on that feeling. In our line of work you often don’t get to see the end result. I get great satisfaction from before/after types of projects because I can see the result. Once I realized this I occupy my free time with lots of little home improvement projects. Keeps my hands busy. Also affords some thinking time while tinkering.
Yes! This is a great insight.
You had me at sexy
Easier said than done but I find what works is to set aside time. 10 mins each evening after work and then a bigger chunk of time on Sundays. That way it won’t pile up so badly and won’t be so overwhelming.
Set some time on your calendar for a few minutes to clean up a portion of your room in the AM. Then again later in the day to finish another portion or the remaining. It all depends on how messy and how much space you have?
What works for me is to cleanup as I go. For example, if I’m eating something and have plates, wrappers and such and am on my way to kitchen to get more coffee I bring the trash/plates with me, this keeps things on my work area clean.
Cloths on the other hand usually get done at night once the kids have gone to bed. But normally cloths are away and there isn’t much to clean up there.
Assuming your cloths problem is in the AM when you’re changing for work? Do you have a hamper close by, if so, put away your old cloths in there to keep the room clean and as for choosing cloths in the AM, what works for me is putting on an outfit and if it’s not what I want, I fold it right then and there and put it back where I had it and try on other cloths instead of ripping out new ones and continuing to add to the mess, again it comes back to doing it as a I go vs piling it all on.
Hope that helps.
Look for organization tips specifically for and by people with ADHD. Not sure of your gender, but the book Queen of Distraction is easy to read and has good, practical tips. Be gentle with yourself. Having a messy room doesn’t detract from all your other wonderful qualities.
Can you ask someone to help you? Look up ADHD and body double. Even having someone sit in the room with you, or on Facetime, can help you perform tasks.
There are also ADHD coaches who help devise storage solutions and coping strategies. If that’s something you can do financially, I’d say it’s well worth it.
Thanks to all of you and your kind tips I got organized and feel much better ☺️
