I commute 1.5 hours to work and 1.5 hours back. Up at 6, home ~8. Don’t even like the field and billable hours..more of a small transactional firm person. Took a job out of desperation. What do I do?

I am a 10 yr lawyer. 7 yrs in my practice area. Little over a year at current firm. Still an associate. Im at large plaintiff firm w/ billable requirements. I do mass/class cases and hold a couple leadership positions (these were competitive to get). What should salary be and when should I make partner. I’ll add I work remote and pretty autonomously. Little contact with partners or anyone at my firm.

Been at my firm for 2.5 years, right out of law school. Worked in my practice area as a clerk for 3 years in law school. New Associate comes in right around my 1.5 year mark, they are 5 years out of school but have no experience in the practice area. They fail to meet billable hours each month. Never go above and beyond. Call out all the time. Can’t be trusted with large/important assignments. Am I right to be annoyed that there is only a 5k difference in salary between us? (I make more).

When should a stub start getting worried about not having much work and low billable hours?
I’ve asked for work but no luck. I know they say this is normal for a stub but when should I start getting worried and consider looking for exit options? Fyi, I like my practice group, so I don’t want to change to a different group within my firm, hence would have to lateral, if I have to. Also, other co-1st years are churning in high hours.

My manager closely monitors and criticizes my hours, even when I’m way over my billable target. I could work four 12-hour days in a row, and he’d still ask why I only put in 7.75 hours on a Friday. New Orleans attorneys: my firm is trying to gather data on billable requirements, rates, and salaries because it’s been experiencing crazy turnover lately. If you’re comfortable, it would be helpful if those in New Orleans or similar markets can share this information. I’ll go first: 1. Firm’s primary practice: insurance defense; 2. Firm size: 25-50 attorneys; 3. Billable requirement: 1950 annual; 4. Salary range for 1-5 year associates: 70k-100k; 5. Salary for 5-8 year associates: 100k-125k.

Partners/shareholders - how many hours are you expected to bill on work vs client dev and firm/associate management? My firm keeps saying that "there's no such thing as a relationship partner" and everyone top-to-bottom is expected to log 2000 hours/year on real billable work. Marketing etc is done on top of that. I have been in HR for 7 years now and am finding it difficult to find an employer with proper work-life balance. I would like anytime that I’m out of the office to be secured me time. No work phone calls or texts after hours or on vacation, but this just isn’t seeming possible once you hit the director/managerial level. I was moved to the final interviews and just received my rejection letter today and it states they loved how i interviewed but they are looking for someone with experience in tech..... so what was the point of having me interview for 3 hours when you already knew my background.... very disappointing and discouraging

I got an offer from a national firm while I currently work for a small firm. I've been with my current office for almost 5 years and am a 6th year associate. The offer is a solid 25k base salary increase and more with bonus calculated in. (115k base to 140k base).
